
Senior UNIX System Engineer

- Manage, maintain, deploy, troubleshoot, and support Red Hat Enterprise Linux, Oracle Enterprise Linux, and Solaris UNIX servers.
- Monitor and tune system performance to ensure optimal operations across a mixed customer environment.
- Plan and implement new system hardware and software, including lifecycle management and firmware version control.
- Create, maintain, and improve technical instructions, operating procedures, and policies.
- Perform system hardening and report on security and operational status.
- Identify system improvements and lead new software/hardware integrations.
- Generate and analyze utilization reports using existing tools to guide problem identification and resolution.
- Provide support and periodic preventive maintenance in a data center environment.
- Demonstrate and implement technologies to enhance efficiency, scalability, and performance of the current environment.
- Configure and maintain key services such as DNS, SFTP, SMTP, and NTP.
- Manage a large pool of local users via command line and enforce access control policies.
- Document and execute repeatable processes and disaster recovery protocols via SOPs.
- Five (5) years as a UNIX Systems Administrator or IT Engineer, including task automation.
- Three (3) years of experience in patch management (YUM, RPM) and applying security updates.
- Three (3) years working in complex networking environments, using VLANs and tools like ifconfig, netstat, ssh, and telnet.
- Three (3) years of system hardening using firewalld/iptables and host configurations.
- Three (3) years managing local user accounts via CLI.
- Three (3) years creating, maintaining, and executing SOPs for repeatable processes and recovery operations.
- Three (3) years configuring and maintaining services: DNS, SFTP, SMTP, and NTP.
- Strong team collaboration and communication skills.
- Three (3) years working with SELinux (basic and advanced configuration).
- Experience with Cybersecurity patching, STIGs/SRGs, RMF, SCA-V, and CORA.
- Experience with large-scale hardware/software deployments across geographically dispersed sites.
- Familiarity with emerging network and infrastructure management tools and best practices.
- CompTIA Security+.
- Computing Environment (CE) Certification (e.g., RedHat) can be waived for 30 days post-start.
- Secret - IT-II Non-Critical Sensitive clearance or Tier 3 (T3) investigation
- Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent experience.
