- Full-time
Location: 3 days p/week in Lexington, MABackground/Need:
The Group provides innovative multidisciplinary engineering solutions through the development of advanced mechanical and aerospace technologies. The Group requires a thermal engineer to support the design, analysis, and testing of prototype systems. These systems span a range of potential environments from ground, underwater, airborne, and space for national security applications. Systems feature high power dissipating components such as laser terminals, RF components, and computing platforms.Job Description:
Significant experience with developing thermal architectures for space based systems, including a background with modeling and simulation of the space environment, orbital analysis, as well as hardware characterization testing is desired. The successful candidate will be part of an interdisciplinary engineering team contributing to the development of operational prototype hardware, spanning the full program life cycle from concept development to on-orbit test. The position requires the ability to be approved for top secret security clearance and may require occasional travel to meetings and field sites.Leads thermal design efforts and architecture definition for satellites and space-based payloads. Conducts thermal analysis using finite difference / finite element models, and plans and executes thermal tests to support model correlation and requirements verification. Specific analyses to include thermal radiator sizing and placement, architectures for cooling high powered components, tracking of component thermalmargins against requirements, and assessing transient behavior of thermal systems in the space environment. Ability to perform hand calculations in conjunction with utilization of CAD and thermal analysis software. Experience with specialized industry tools.Must Have:
- At least 8 years of experience in thermal engineering, thermal architecture design, analysis, and test for space systems
- Demonstrable experience specifically using thermal modeling software (ANSYS, COMSOL, Thermal Desktop, ICEPAK) to support development of space systems.
- Ability to work independently on multiple, fast-paced programs in parallel.
- Experience with Thermal Vacuum (TVAC) test design and execution.
- Masters Degree a plus.
