Job Description:OverviewHerzog Contracting Corp. is currently seeking Equipment Operators in Springfield, VA to join our team.Duties and Responsibilities:*This is a non-exhaustive overview of the job duties for this position.
  • Operates and performs operator-level maintenance of several types of heavy equipment including end loaders, backhoe tractors, bulldozers, road graders, and specialized track equipment.
  • Operates equipment to plow, move and broom crushed rock ballast, remove or install track components, and to move, grade, level, compact, load, or unload embankment material, vegetation, or trash.
  • Performs safety inspections of equipment.
  • May work as a member of a crew or independently.
  • May work under the direction of a Railroad Track Superintendent or Railroad Track Foreman.
  • Regular and consistent engagement, participation and promotion of Herzog's Culture and its essential behaviors are a requirement for this position.
  • Regular and predictable attendance and punctuality are a requirement for this position.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Previous Heavy Equipment experience, preferably Railroad experience.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude preferred, basic mechanical ability required.
  • Experience using hand tools, power tools and hydraulic equipment.
  • Knowledge of and ability to adhere to safety requirements and procedures.
  • Knowledge of safe, efficient use of equipment and tools to perform construction and maintenance tasks.
  • The ability to communicate in a professional manner with owners, owner’s representatives, customers and direct supervisor.
  • Ability to work a computer or other hand held device for payroll reports, equipment reports, safety and equipment reports and email correspondence.
  • Ability to maintain composure and complete work under time pressures.
  • Must be able to work well with others.
  • Able to read, write and communicate (speak, hear and understand) the English language.
  • Bilingual is a plus.
  • Company provides required Personal Protective Equipment including a Safety Boots Allowance Program.
Pre-Employment Requirements:
  • Subject to pre-employment background check and motor vehicle report review.
  • Maintain a valid driver’s license and endorsements as required per position.
  • Subject to pre-employment physical, medical evaluation, and drug screen due to the safety sensitive nature of this position.
  • Successfully complete and maintain any required safety certification and testing on an annual basis.

  • Perform light work, occasionally exerting up to 20 pounds of force.
  • Able to walk on uneven surfaces.
  • Occasionally ascend/descend step ladders and/or stairs.
  • Regularly sit and stand for an extended period of time.
  • Regularly kneel, bend, and squat.
  • Must successfully pass color/vision examinations as required by the position.
  • Must be able to hear and distinguish auditory signals as required by the position.
  • Able to work in conditions with loud noise; work on/around heavy/moving machinery.
  • Able to work outdoors in all weather conditions (hot, cold, rain, snow, and sleet).
