Job Description:The Senior Electrical Engineer is responsible for overall electrical engineering system design that is safe, reliable and conforms with codes, standards, and applicable regulations within assigned mining, minerals, and metals projects.The Senior Electrical Engineer will pursue and develop opportunities for innovation, such as digitalisation, as well as opportunities for decarbonization, by reducing energy intensity on projects, and deliver value to Wood and customer.Responsibilities:
  • Review and document project requirements including reliability, redundancy, and efficiency of the electrical system.
  • Approve electrical design criteria, specifications, and standards, and adopt, and or verify that, these codes, standards, and regulations are followed when designing electrical systems.
  • Conduct and or supervise electrical studies: short circuit, load flow, motor starting, arc flash, power quality.
  • Develop single line, three line, and interconnection diagrams.
  • Specify and size electrical equipment including but not limited to transformers, switchgear, breakers, motors, e-houses, MCC's, VFD's and electrical protection equipment.
  • Conduct technical reviews and approve vendor documentation, purchase requisitions, price inquiries, and prepare Letter of Recommendations for electrical engineering packages.
  • Supervise and coordinate work of electrical design team.
  • Engage with electrical utilities for interconnection with primary power supply.
  • Interface with construction team as required to provide technical clarity and advise of any changes.
  • Remain abreast of technological developments in industrial electrical engineering.
  • Provide support during project construction, commissioning, and startup activities.
Qualifications:Skills and Qualifications:
  • Undergraduate or graduate degree in Electrical Engineering. Professional Registration (P.E.).
  • 10+ years of electrical engineering experience, including 5 years with an engineering firm.
  • CAD software proficiency for electrical design
  • Experience with electrical engineering modeling software such as SKM or ETAP.
  • Understanding of electrical engineering standards including NEC, IEEE, and NFPA 70E.
  • Experience with Medium and High Voltage Equipment.
  • Experience in the mining, minerals and or metals industry.
  • Knowledge of renewable energy sources like solar or wind is desirable.
  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational, problem solving and conflict resolution skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and presentation skills.
