Position Overview:The Inclusion Special Education Teacher will work closely with general education teachers to provide tailored support for students with disabilities in the general education classroom. This teacher will differentiate instruction, modify the curriculum, and provide accommodations to ensure that students with disabilities are fully integrated and able to participate in all aspects of academic and social life. The Inclusion Special Education Teacher will be a key member of a collaborative team, working to support students' individual needs, implement IEP goals, and create an inclusive, nurturing learning environment for all students.Key Responsibilities:Inclusion Support: * Co-teach in the general education classroom alongside content-area teachers to support students with disabilities in accessing the curriculum.
  • Modify and adapt lesson plans and materials to meet the needs of students with disabilities, ensuring that they can engage with grade-level content.
  • Provide one-on-one and small-group instruction to students with disabilities as needed, ensuring they are progressing toward IEP goals and making academic gains.
IEP Implementation and Case Management: * Develop, implement, and monitor Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) for students with disabilities.
  • Track and assess student progress towards IEP goals, adjusting instruction as needed.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records on students' progress, IEP documentation, and related assessments.
  • Participate in IEP meetings and collaborate with parents, administrators, and related service providers to review progress, make adjustments, and ensure effective service delivery.
Collaboration with General Education Teachers: * Collaborate with general education teachers to ensure that students with disabilities receive necessary accommodations and modifications within the classroom.
  • Assist in the implementation of behavior intervention plans (BIPs) and ensure that classroom management strategies support students' social-emotional needs.
  • Provide guidance and strategies for teachers on how to effectively support students with disabilities in a general education setting.
Behavioral and Social-Emotional Support: * Support students in developing strong social-emotional skills, including self-regulation, conflict resolution, and communication.
  • Collaborate with counselors and school staff to implement positive behavior support systems.
  • Ensure that students with disabilities have access to extracurricular activities and social opportunities within the school community.
Data Collection and Reporting: * Regularly assess and document students' academic, behavioral, and social-emotional progress.
  • Use data to inform instructional decisions and modify approaches to ensure student success.
  • Provide regular updates to parents/guardians and participate in parent-teacher conferences to discuss student progress.
Professional Development and Growth: * Engage in ongoing professional development to stay current on best practices in special education, co-teaching strategies, and inclusion practices.
  • Participate in school and network-wide professional development opportunities to continually refine teaching practices and share best practices with colleagues.
Qualifications: * Bachelor's degree in Special Education or a related field (Master's degree preferred).
  • Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL) with Special Education endorsement (LBS1).
  • Experience working with students with disabilities, preferably in a co-teaching or inclusion setting.
  • Knowledge of special education laws, IEP development, and accommodations/modifications in the general education classroom.
  • Strong understanding of differentiated instruction strategies and evidence-based teaching practices.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with general education teachers, other special education professionals, and families.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
