
Substation Engineering Technician

- Proactively provide guidance and direction by utilizing knowledge of standards, systems, document control, departmental guides, applicable codes, and policies. Review project requirements to determine the correct format and contents of deliverables.
- Promote quality within the project or group by reviewing design inputs for consistency and ensuring deliverables comply with specific codes and standards. Responsible for drawing control and historical records.
- Apply basic engineering principles and established design practices in developing moderately complex design concepts and deliverables. Perform design calculations, detailed material quantities and estimates, and records. Use advanced applications such as modeling and design software.
- Coordinate with other design group personnel to review and exchange project information necessary for design development. Support field activities and communicate project design requirements, progress, and schedules.
- Assist with identifying key client interests and drivers, communicate these to the project team, and develop approaches to accommodate them.
- Assist in developing and communicating appropriate design standards and process improvement activities. Identify training and development needs for personnel.
- Provide guidance to lesser-experienced engineering technicians, assist with performance management, mentoring, and recognition. Monitor staffing levels and available skill sets for projects.

- Ability to use electronic applications such as CADD, information modeling, and document storage systems.
- Advanced experience with AutoDesk Inventor (SDS) and physical substation design (AIS and/or GIS).
- Intermediate knowledge of engineering calculations and industry knowledge.
- Advanced knowledge of engineering standards, systems, document control, departmental guides, and policies.
- Basic knowledge of construction, constructability practices, procurement, contract administration, project controls, and estimating.
- Associate Degree in Drafting or an Engineering Design Related Technology preferred. Bachelor’s degree in an Engineering Design Related Technology preferred.
