GouldDepartment: DialysisPosition is located:North Street Healthcare MallWork Type: PRNHours Per Week: 0.00Work Schedule: No Hours AssignedSummary:The Certified Clinical Hemodialysis Technician (CCHT) I initiates, monitors and discontinues outpatient hemodialysis treatments under the supervision of the Hemodialysis RN.Responsibilities:
  • Provides routine dialysis care for patients (vital signs, blood draws, etc.).
  • Demonstrates ability to explain the chemistry and mechanism of dialysis treatments and assist in educating patients.
  • Provides emergency care to patients who experience fainting, unconsciousness, drop in blood pressure, cardiac symptoms, stroke, and/or air embolus by placing patient in Trendelenburg, applying oxygen, giving saline bolus, and/or properly positioning patient while awaiting further assistance by team.
  • Properly cannulates patients’ arteriovenous fistulas and grafts using large gauge needles to provide high quality and successful treatments.
  • Accesses, assesses, and provides aseptic catheter care for tunneled dialysis catheters, while making efforts to minimize infection risks.
  • Removes needles carefully, ensuring that atrial bleeding has stopped and patients are safe to discharge from treatment.
  • Sets up a clean, safe dialysis station and machines for patients.
  • Programs dialysis machines appropriately according to patient prescriptions, closely monitoring treatments.
  • Prepares medications for administration (mannitol) and prepares and administers approved medications intravenously or subcutaneously (heparin, lidocaine, etc.) in accordance with policies.
  • Properly mixes/makes potassium acid baths used during dialysis treatments and tests concentrations as scheduled.
  • Completes chores, tasks, and other jobs as assigned.
Other Information:
  • Current BLS certification required.
  • Successful completion of a 12-week national core curriculum, including outside study, tests, and written work to achieve national Certified Clinical Hemodialysis Technician (CCHT) credential.
  • Prior medical experience is preferred.
  • Dialysis experience is preferred.
