- Must excel in all aspects of customer service and have the ability to deal with sensitive issues in a calm, professional manner.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- A self-starter, with the ability to work independently, make sound decisions, and follow up appropriately.
- Comfortable interacting with individuals at all levels of the organization while maintaining a professional demeanor with patients, caregivers, and healthcare partners.
- Healthcare background (EMT, CNA, medical assistant, ETC.) strongly preferred.
- Medical billing experience a plus.
- Answer incoming calls from patients, caregivers, and healthcare partners.
- Access patient medical records to provide information such as medication verification, care instructions, and appointment confirmations.
- Take and document detailed messages for on-call nursing staff, asking appropriate questions to gather critical patient information (signs, symptoms, etc.).
- Refer urgent concerns to the appropriate on-call clinician and relay details via text message.
- Follow up with on-call staff to ensure timely patient care.
- Accurately document all calls and actions in the Message Center and the patient’s EMR system.
- Record non-urgent matters for follow-up during normal business hours.
- Review ambulance transport documentation and verify billing information prior to claim submission.
- Ensure accuracy of patient demographics, insurance coverage, and medical coding to reduce claim denials and speed reimbursement.
- Communicate with customers in a professional manner.
- Interact with payers to secure timely payment.
- Verify payer coverage through resources available.
- Maintain knowledge of payer regulations, timely filing deadlines, payment and appeals policies and procedures.
- Represent the organization professionally and appropriately.
- Answer inbound calls daily from customers, vendors, as well as other calls.
- Communicate with all facilities, Brewster employees and vendors in a professional manner.
- Ability to work in and participate in a team environment while performing at the highest standards independently.
