ResponsibilitiesThe Chemist will:
Prepare samples of iron and steel slags, agricultural products, cements, and fertilizers for analysis, ensuring they are correctly labeled and documented
Conduct chemical and physical tests on samples to determine their properties, such as strength, stability, and chemical content
Set up and calibrate laboratory equipment and instrumentation to ensure accurate test results
Enter test data into computer systems and maintain detailed records of all analyses
Analyze and interpret test data, plotting results on control charts for quality monitoring
Generate routine reports and communicate findings to the Supervisor for further action
Maintain and troubleshoot laboratory equipment, ensuring all instruments are in good working order
Perform other projects as assigned
SkillsThe ideal candidate will have:
Minimum Bachelor's Degree in chemical technology or applied sciences (physics, mathematics, engineering, natural sciences) or equivalent
Ability to sit, stand, walk for extended periods of time and lift 50 lbs.
Ability to climb ladders, scaffolding, and stockpiles
Ability and willingness to work with hazardous chemicals (i.e. strong acids and bases)
Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and LIMS Systems
Knowledge of XRF and ICP operation
Exposure to the glass industry a plus
Knowledge of statistical analysis
Good verbal and written communication skills
Valid Driver's License and excellent driving record
