Folia’s patented coating technology transforms paper into an advanced material platform capable of replacing billions of plastic products across many use cases, with food packaging our initial focus.Role Overview:The Test Engineer Intern at Folia Materials will work closely with both R&D and Culinary Science teams to advance the development and testing of Folia's innovative microwave technology. You will be instrumental in conducting experiments, analyzing data, and improving the performance of our patented paper microwave packaging. This role offers a unique opportunity to blend engineering skills with culinary science, contributing to products that enhance the quality of microwaveable foods.Key Responsibilities:
  • Collaborate with the R&D and Culinary Science teams to plan and execute tests on microwave food packaging solutions.
  • Assist in the rapid screening of a variety of frozen foods to assess their compatibility with Folia's paper microwave packaging, focusing on improving food quality.
  • Contribute to the development of product demos, including packaging form factors and cooking instructions, aimed at demonstrating the benefits of Folia's technology to potential clients.
  • Support the creation of sensory profiles and quantitative organoleptic measurements for each product tested, ensuring repeatability and methodological accuracy.
  • Participate in the preparation of sales materials and technical documentation that highlight the culinary science and performance improvements offered by our packaging solutions.
  • Facilitate the comparison of Folia's microwave packaging against control groups, documenting sensory and physical changes to taste, texture, and overall food quality.
Qualifications:
  • Currently pursuing a degree in Engineering, Food Science, Culinary Science, or a related field.
  • Strong analytical skills and ability to work methodically on scientific experiments.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, to effectively collaborate with teams and present findings.
  • Creative problem-solving skills and ability to innovate in the development of culinary science solutions.
  • Basic understanding of culinary principles and a keen interest in food quality improvement.
  • Bonus: Experience with microwave technology or food packaging development.
  • Bonus: Experience or interest in sensory analysis and food product development.
