CSL has a talented team of more than 350 staff members, all of whom are dedicated to ensuring that members of our university community, particularly our students, are poised for academic, personal, and professional success.The Office of the Bursar supports all University Student Account management, Laboratory Schools, and revenue management services for the University community.Job Summary The University of Chicago seeks an experienced and resourceful professional to lead the Campus and Student Life (CSL) OneCard Contactless Payment solution. The OneCard Contactless Payment solution utilizes a versatile platform that enables students, faculty, and staff to access facilities and services, as well as make purchases at various on-campus venues. This position is responsible for developing and enforcing policies, procedures, and security standards; maintaining and overseeing the continued operation of the CSL OneCard Contactless Payment solution, point of sale, and other related systems; and acting as the functional/application administrator. Additional responsibilities include recommending and implementing system enhancements, setting priorities, monitoring performance, planning new installations, and managing system integrations. The role requires collaboration with university management and external vendors to ensure continuous, efficient, and secure service delivery, as well as researching innovative methods to improve campus services.The Associate Director, CSL Technology is responsible for ensuring the seamless operation and continual advancement of the University’s integrated OneCard services across various Campus and Student Life departments. This position focuses on analyzing and refining business processes, translating user needs into technical solutions, and serving as a key liaison between various CSL operations, Information Technology Services (ITS), and leadership. This role oversees complex point-of-sale (POS) systems, ID card technologies, and related financial processes, with a commitment to optimizing scalability, reliability, and compliance with industry standards.ResponsibilitiesBusiness Process Analysis and Needs Assessment:Evaluate current systems and workflows to identify gaps, drive productivity, and enhance user experience.Analyze constraints related to network capacity, hardware utilization, and data security, making recommendations to leadership.Conduct cost-benefit assessments and resource planning for new or expanded OneCard initiatives.Perform needs assessments to identify opportunities for improving student services, mobile reader administration, and other technologies that support campus partners.Translating Business Needs into System Requirements:Oversee the configuration and maintenance of POS databases and related OneCard systems.Gather input from stakeholders to develop efficient system specifications.Collaborate with ITS to confirm that technical solutions align with network security requirements and University policies.Ensure awareness of routine system maintenance, patches, and upgrades.Recommending Process Improvements and Managing System Enhancements:Proactively identify and resolve complex system logic issues.Research and implement new product integrations, including off-campus payment acceptance and online ordering tools.Lead upgrades and installations of POS hardware/software to modernize and optimize service delivery.Work on CSL system integrations and capitalize on existing technology investments.Communicating and Presenting System Enhancements:Serve as a liaison between various CSL operations and IT management, conveying updates on new capabilities, security requirements, and overall performance.Provide regular status reports, analyses, and recommendations to executive stakeholders, ensuring transparency and alignment.Develop and maintain documentation to facilitate understanding of technical changes and system enhancements.Partnership Development and Vendor Management:Collaborate with various offices, divisions, and departments to address complex OneCard system issues.Work on external vendor management, including managing existing service relationships and integrating new business opportunities.Lead quarterly meetings with campus partners to discuss service and integrations, roadmap future innovations, including mobile credentials, autonomous delivery, artificial intelligence, and other projects.Other Related Work:Participate in special projects or additional duties that support overall Campus and Student Life objectives.Assess and implement OneCard programs and services across the campus community, coordinating with satellite locations and off-campus merchants.Maintain awareness of legal considerations for OneCard policies, procedures, and implementations to ensure compliance with university standards and state/federal regulations.Recommend, evaluate, and assist in planning and rolling out new OneCard programs or services to support revenue growth and enhance the overall campus experience.Oversee UChicago Dining’s web presence, including site updates and organization of online resources related to OneCard services.Has a deep understanding of business process analyses, needs assessments, and preliminary cost/benefit analyses. Solves complex problems relating to computer equipment capacity, limitations, and operation time.Recommends process improvements in existing applications and revises existing system logic difficulties as necessary. Designs, develops, and implements new applications, systems architecture, network systems, and applications infrastructures.Performs other related work as needed.Minimum QualificationsEducation: Minimum requirements include a college or university degree in related field.Work Experience: Minimum requirements include knowledge and skills developed through 5-7 years of work experience in a related job discipline.Certifications:---Preferred QualificationsExperience:Experience with OneCard Systems including point of sales.Knowledge of PCI-DSS compliance and of new emerging one-card technologies.Preferred CompetenciesProven ability to evaluate complex workflows, troubleshoot problems, and initiate strategic improvements.Strong analytical and communication skills to interface effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.Advanced knowledge of point-of-sale technologies, card systems, data security requirements, and compliance standards.Demonstrated experience in higher education settings is, particularly managing OneCard systems.Proficiency with information systems, project management methodologies, Windows-based computers, and Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).
