- CNC Machining: Operate, program, and set up 5-axis CNC machines to produce high-precision parts and components for various manufacturing projects.
- CAD/CAM Expertise: Use CAD and CAM software to create and optimize tool paths, as well as to program CNC machines for complex geometries and tight tolerances.
- Welding & Equipment Experience: Familiar using various welding techniques, heavy machines, and dynamic machine shop layouts and equipment placement
- Technical: Comfortable working with electrical, test, mechanical, facility or hydraulic systems, components and equipment.
- Mentorship: Provide guidance and mentorship to junior machinists, helping to develop their technical skills and knowledge in CNC machining, best practices, and safety protocols.
- Collaboration with Cross-Functional Teams: Work closely with engineers and technicians in R&D, manufacturing, and fixture design teams to ensure that parts meet design specifications and manufacturing requirements. Actively participate in troubleshooting, process improvements, and design feedback.
- Quality Control: Inspect finished parts for accuracy, quality, and conformance to specifications and drawings using precision measurement tools. Ensure adherence to the company's quality standards and assist in resolving any quality issues.
- Process Improvement: Continuously assess machining processes for efficiency, effectiveness, and quality, suggesting and implementing improvements as necessary.
- Training & Development: Assist in the training of new machinists, ensuring adherence to company policies and procedures, as well as promoting a safe and efficient work environment.
- Documentation: Maintain accurate records of machine setups, work orders, and tooling changes. Provide feedback on machining operations and suggest improvements based on lessons learned.
- Experience: Minimum of 10 years of machine shop experience in CNC machining, with at least 3+ years of hands-on experience operating 5-axis CNC equipment.
- Education: High school diploma
- Skills:
- Proficiency in CNC programming and setup for 5-axis machines.
- Proficiency in machine shop equipment/technology and best practices such as but not limited to: multi-axis turning or grinding, welding, lathes, mills, 3D printing, or laser cutting.
- Strong experience with CAD/CAM software (e.g., SolidWorks, Mastercam, Fusion 360).
- Checks tools and test equipment for proper calibration and repair according to standard operating procedures.
- Makes sure all chemicals and hazardous wastes are segregated and labeled in accordance with internal procedures and regulatory requirements.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and blueprints.
- Strong knowledge of machining materials, tooling, and cutting methods.
- Mentorship: Previous experience in mentoring or supervising junior machinists, with a passion for knowledge-sharing and skill development.
- Collaboration: Comfortable interacting with various departments such as R&D, fixture design, and manufacturing to address complex machining challenges and improve processes. Develops charts, graphs, schematics, and drawings to describe and illustrate machine, test or component characteristics. Makes recommendations to cross-functional teams and management on improving quality, efficiency, cost control, processes or productivity techniques.
- Attention to Detail: Excellent attention to detail and high standards for quality control.
- Education: High school diploma or equivalent. Technical training or certification in CNC machining is preferred.
- Physical Requirements: Ability to stand for long periods, lift up to 50 lbs, and work in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
