Job DescriptionThe Laboratory Manager leads the strategic planning, development, and operational oversight of all PMG Laboratory Services, including both clinical and pathology labs. This role ensures regulatory compliance, supervises laboratory personnel, and supports quality improvement initiatives in alignment with state, federal, and accrediting body standards.Responsibilities
- Direct daily activities of laboratory staff, including scheduling, timekeeping, performance evaluations, and PTO approvals.
- Ensure ongoing training and competency assessments are completed on schedule.
- Manage laboratory workflows, equipment maintenance, LIS/EMR integration, and service contracts.
- Coordinate with vendors and IT to maintain system functionality and resolve issues.
- Maintain up-to-date procedure manuals and laboratory records.
- Oversee CLEP permit renewals, proficiency testing, and ensure adherence to NYSDOH and other regulatory guidelines.
- Conduct audits, review QC data, calibrations, and validation studies.
- Collaborate with the Laboratory Medical Director to evaluate and implement new testing methodologies.
- Facilitate annual chemical exposure testing for pathology staff.
- Ensure all licensed personnel meet continuing education requirements and maintain documentation of compliance.
- Provide hands-on support for laboratory testing, including microbiology, urine cytology, FISH analysis, semen analysis, and other clinical diagnostics as needed (30–50% of workload).
- Prepare agendas and reports for quarterly quality meetings.
- Maintain licensure across PMG locations and update policies and SOPs in response to operational needs.
- Management experience in laboratory settings.
- Laboratory bench work.
- NYS Medical Technologist license.
- Experience in hematology, medical laboratory, microbiology, and molecular biology.
- Minimum of 8-10 years of laboratory experience with at least 3 years in management.
