
Building Manager, Natural Sciences and Mathematics

- Long-term renovation or small projects
- Coordinate and submit Phase I projects
- Communications: Work with the dean's office to push out pertinent announcements (custodial, building maintenance, campus safety, fire department, etc.) to building tenants.
- Main contact for all building inquiries/complaints/requests
- Assess building maintenance needs on an ongoing basis:
- Troubleshoot all repair issues and submit work orders.
- Follow up with the appropriate facilities department to ensure work is completed to an acceptable level.
- Work with the HVAC department on air pressure issues in the building that affect the building and research.
- Furniture
- Relocate furniture as needed.
- Ensure the proper number of seats in classrooms quarterly, as furniture tends to migrate.
- Manage furniture placement in common areas.
- Field purchase requests.
- Assess repair needs.
- Determine replacement needs and costs.
- Track and manage the distribution of furniture keys for all multi-purpose faculty and GXA offices.
- Custodial
- Meet quarterly with custodial supervisors.
- Field reports from students, faculty, and staff, and communicates needs to custodial services.
- Schedule more in-depth cleaning when necessary.
- Signage: Determine interior office and other signage needs, design and submit WOs.
- Coordination of receiving items directly to the building outside of the University's Warehouse and Receiving Department.
- Coordinate Deliveries from vendors for equipment and supplies.
- Shared lab Equipment
- Assist with vendor contract for specialized equipment that includes maintenance, renewal, and upgrades.
- Maintain a maintenance schedule for specialized equipment.
- Coordinate laboratory equipment testing with Lab Managers.
- Field malfunctioning issues.
- Field cleaning issues.
- Work with PIs and Lab Managers as requested.
- Emergency Preparedness
- Update Emergency Response Plan yearly and submit to Campus Safety.
- Conduct yearly Emergency Response Team (ERT) meetings.
- Recruit and train ERT.
- Conduct Emergency Preparedness Committee meetings.
- Forward Campus Safety communications to faculty and staff (Denver Fire Department (DFD) alarm testing).
- Work with Facilities on Yearly DFD building inspections.
- Coordinate yearly fire drills with Campus Safety.
- Hazardous Materials Signage, Storage, and Disposal:
- Coordinate with Environmental Health and Safety, Chemistry, and Biology as needed.
- Building Access (C-Cure)
- Manage door access requests and set up.
- Work with Campus Safety on access time changes (summer/holidays).
- Set after-hour door unlock requests for NSM events in NSM Building (clubs, speaker events)
- Work with Campus Safety on C-Cure access.
- Field requests for visitor access.
- Interior Doors
- Work with Key Shop regarding Persona keypad problems and installation.
- Provide support in managing access requests (student course access setup, new employees, research labs).
- Work with faculty and lab managers to update lab access lists yearly.
- Work with Key Shop on DU Key Shop Beta test initiatives.
- Place key orders for faculty and staff.
- Process key returns and reassignments through SimpleK System.
- Work with the Key Shop to resolve all door access issues.
- Whiteboards/whiteboard tables/portable whiteboards
- Ensure whiteboards are in good shape: cleaned, repaired.
- Stock supplies in common areas.
- Vending Machine: Schedule maintenance and repair with vendor contact.
- Coordinate with outside departments regarding repair work, donor installations, outside events, etc.
- Coordinate with the University Architect's office regarding projects that affect the NSM Building (i.e., water line work cutting through NSM Building parking lots, sewer installation, etc.).
- Space Management and Allocation
- Support with requests from the Dean, Department Chair, and Assistant Dean of Business Operations on office and lab assignments and other space allocation issues.
- Ensure offices and labs are cleaned out and ready for the next occupant. Assist with the cleanup of furniture and equipment that is being disposed of or needs to be moved.
- Building floor plans: Coordinate and work with the University Architect's office to update NSM building plans.
- Support miscellaneous faculty, staff, and student requests outside of building-related issues.
- Develops or assists with the development of manuals and safety training protocols for specialized equipment.
- Maintain a record of training completed for specialized equipment.
- Vehicle Management: oversee and maintain NSM vehicles.
- Advanced verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to effectively work with a wide range of individuals and constituencies in a diverse community and foster a cooperative work environment.
- Ability to plan and implement short- and long-term projects and goals.
- Strong skills in organizing resources and establishing priorities.
- Ability to complete physical labor that includes but is not limited to lifting and moving furniture and office supplies.
- Proven ability to work with a high level of independence, maintain confidentiality, prioritize assignments, and manage time effectively.
- Ability to organize and track a large amount of logistics and procedures with attention to detail.

- Bachelor's Degree or a minimum of 4 years of professional experience in building operations, building management, or similar roles.
- Master's degree or 4 years or more of experience in building operations, building management, or similar roles.
- Experience in Higher Education or similar complex environment
- Standard office environment.
- Unexpected interruptions occur often and stress level is moderate to high.
- Noise level is quiet to moderate.
- Ability to work in front of a computer for extended periods of time.
- Occasionally required to move about the office/campus.
