- Inform and advise Abbott commercial teams of their obligations to comply with the U.S. and global data protection laws and requirements, including HIPAA, GDPR, and applicable U.S. state law requirements.
- Monitor compliance including managing internal data protection activities, training data processing staff and assisting with internal auditing and monitoring.
- Lead privacy reviews for Generative Artificial Intelligence related matters and guide divisions with Generative AI related advising.
- Be a member and participate in divisional Data Use and Ethics Councils.
- Lead divisional activities with regards to privacy enhancing technologies, such as Abbott’s centralized consent management platform and Abbott’s consumer tracking management platform.
- Advise on data protection impact assessments when required under GDPR and other global requirements.
- Work and cooperate with designated supervisory authorities on issues relating to the processing of personal data.
- Be available for inquiries from data subjects on issues relating to data protection practices.
- Post-graduate degree and/or CIPP accreditation are highly preferred.
- Must be able to work from an Abbott U.S. Medical Device location relevant to the CRM and HF businesses, i.e., Sylmar, CA or Pleasanton, CA.
- 4+ to 6+ years of global privacy experience in a multi-national company (medical device, pharmaceutical, consumer goods, or healthcare preferred) or a global law firm.
- Strong knowledge of data protection and information security laws, rules, and regulations, as well as industry leading-practices and standards.
- In-depth experience with U.S. privacy regulations EU data protection laws is required.
- Strong project management skills.
- Understanding of privacy enhancing technologies (consent management, incident management, cookie management, etc.).
