Reports to the Lung Institute Clinical Administrator & Respiratory Care Clinical Manager. Primary responsibility is to provide on-boarding, orientation, in-service/training/education for Respiratory Care staff, Nursing staff, and patients, and to provide and administer respiratory care ordered by the physician, and maintain patient and department related documentation. Additional responsibilities include involvement with all Research opportunities involving Respiratory/Pulmonary patients. There is also an expectation of being actively involved with the Adult and/or Children's ECMO Teams. This will require attending an ECMO Training course (either the ELSO Course or an Erlanger sponsored ECMO Course) and sufficient time providing bedside care to maintain these skills and train other therapists on the ECMO Team.The Respiratory Care Educator participates in assessing; planning, implementing, and evaluation of care provided to the patients and evaluate the education needs of the Respiratory staff. Recommends and develops educational programs for staff development. Assist staff as the need arises, maximizing safe and effective utilization of respiratory care and patient care delivery. Educator duties should consist of between 50% of worked hours, depending on the educational needs of the department; and the remaining 50% portion of the time functioning as a staff RT.Education:
Required:
- Baccalaureate Degree in Respiratory; or AS Degree in Respiratory and Baccalaureate Degree in health-related field/Business Management or enrolled/ working on BS/BA degree and must complete degree within two years of hire.Preferred:
- Master of Science Degree in health care services related field. ECMO trained specialist qualified to function with the ECMO team.Experience:
Required:
- Three (3) years critical care experience as Registered Respiratory Therapist.Preferred:
-- Five (5) years of critical care experience, ECMO Specialist, or prior experience as Clinical Educator.Position Requirement(s): License/Certification/Registration

-- RRT by the NBRC, Licensed by the State of Tennessee as a Registered Respiratory Therapist, ABG Endorsed. BLS completed prior to going to unit/department and maintained going forward.
- Current AHA & ACLS, current BLS Instructor and Current ACLS Instructor.
- For Pediatric Educator: Current AHA NRP & PALS, Current NRP & PALS Instructor.(If ACLS, NRP & PALS Instructor Cert. is not current, must obtain current certification within 3-6 months upon starting position).Preferred:

Knowledge of all modalities of Respiratory Care to patient ages adolescent to geriatric adult, with special emphasis on physiology and treatment/rehabilitation. Provide RT staff on-boarding, orientation, monthly educational in-service opportunities for all the Respiratory Staff. Identifies educational needs, develops and implements competency verification (staff annual competency and clinical skills check-offs). Assess patient respiratory needs, plans and coordinates implementation of Respiratory Care plans and protocols. Works closely with the respiratory care manager, medical director, and medical staff to develop and implement standards for respiratory care procedures. Assist in evaluation the performance of respiratory staff. Recommends, implements and coordinates Respiratory Care research activities including supervision of adherence to research protocols, collection and maintenance of data, generation of abstracts on presentation at scientific meetings. Develops and presents educational programs to nursing and physician staff related to Respiratory Care. Evaluates and recommends purchase of Respiratory equipment and supplies. Actively involved with the ECMO Program and function as a resource for all ECMO therapists. Occasional educational travel may be encouraged.Will offer BLS, ACLS certification/re-certification to Respiratory employees on regular basis. At least one educator will be tasked (by assignment of duties) with assisting Pediatric Respiratory Education and will require NRP & PALs certification and instructor certification.
