Ranked 35 among national universities, Boston College has 888 full-time and 1,281 FTE faculty, 2,711 non-faculty employees, an operating budget of $1.4 billion, and an endowment in excess of $3.5 billion.Job DescriptionBoston College Academic Research Services is seeking a highly qualified Research Statistician/Research Data Scientist to join the team, which supports academic research across all departments at Boston College. In this position, you will provide statistical and data science consultation to faculty researchers. The successful candidate will provide expertise on research projects, including writing and consulting on federal and foundation grant applications, peer-reviewed manuscripts, and doctoral dissertations. The role encompasses the entire research lifecycle, from experimental design and implementation to analysis and publication. As a consultant you will meet with investigators to understand their research goals and translate those into an actionable plan. You will also have the opportunity to co-author papers with faculty by assuming primary roles related to data analysis and writing results sections of manuscripts.Relevant qualifications include:
Communication & Collaboration:
Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills, including presentation skills.
Demonstrated ability to translate complex statistical concepts into clear, non-technical language for a diverse audience.
Experience working on interdisciplinary teams.Technical & Analytical Skills:
Experience with advanced methodologies especially for social sciences which may include SEM, LCA, latent variable models, time-series analysis, multi-level models, power analysis, and/or multiple imputation for missing data.
Knowledge of machine learning methods, tools, and software.
Experience in research that utilizes machine learning and AI/LLMs.
Experience or advanced training in various research designs (e.g. observational/survey, RCT, Adaptive and SMART designs, and others).
Experience contributing to grant proposals and general knowledge of various NIH funding mechanisms.
Knowledge of data privacy and security best practices.Innovation & Continuous Learning:
Ability to support AI-driven research.
Comfortable and innovative in incorporating AI into their workflows.
Tenacious in problem-solving, willing to learn new methods and identify the appropriate tools to implement methods.
Continuous monitoring of new methods and advancements in statistics.This is not a fully remote position (hybrid flexibility at the discretion of management).

Senior Research Statistician: Minimum of 5 years of experience in a research environment providing advanced statistical/analytical consultation. A PhD or equivalent in Statistics, Data Science, or a related quantitative field.
Minimum of 5 years of experience in a research environment providing advanced statistical/analytical consultation.
Experience in an occupation performing advanced statistical analysis or machine learning in a research environment.
Experience with data analysis, data wrangling/cleaning, and manuscript writing.
Demonstrated advanced knowledge (gained through experience or coursework) in Python, R, STATA, SAS, SPSS, and/or MPlus.
Experience with machine learning and large data management.
Ability to produce high-quality deliverables and a demonstrated track record of self-quality control.
