The primary mission of Facility Management is to provide a safe and healthful work environment for employees and the public in a cost effective and energy efficient manner. This mission is accomplished by performing routine, preventive, and emergency maintenance to state facilities owned by and allocated to the Department of Administration.Key Responsibilities:
  • Ability to install and service HVAC equipment.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and repair chilled water distribution systems (chillers).
Division/ Department OverviewThe Department of Administration serves as the business manager for North Carolina state government and provides leadership to state government agencies for the effective, efficient, economical and equitable delivery of services to the public. The department also provides assistance and services to several advocacy programs that serve diverse segments of the state's population that have traditionally been underserved. The agency's mission directs departmental efforts to: acquire, develop and maintain properties and facilities; create and operate an efficient system to purchase and dispose of goods and services to meet the needs of government agencies; provide excellent operational services to state employees; achieve fair and equitable opportunities and representation for various segments of the population that have special needs; and to provide administrative support to independent state government agencies.Knowledge, Skills and Abilities / CompetenciesNOTE: "See Resume" is not acceptable to show work history.MANAGEMENT PREFERENCES:
  • Demonstrated ability to install and service HVAC equipment, troubleshoot and repair chilled water distribution systems (chillers).
  • Individual in this position should be able to perform a full range of work associated with the construction, maintenance and repair of air conditioning systems and associated air handling, chilled water distribution, control mechanisms, and troubleshoot and repair automation systems and repair control systems. .
  • Demonstrated ability to read blueprints and ability to design, size, and install duct systems and VAV boxes.
  • Demonstrated ability to install and service computer room a/c systems and install and repair VFDs as well as ability to repair pneumatic controllers, actuators and pressure independent valves.
  • Demonstrated ability to operate DDC automation systems for building controls, diagnose mechanical/electrical problems using DDC system, train others and diagnose equipment malfunctions and prescribe repair procedures.
NECESSARY REQUIREMENTS:
  • Valid NC Driver's License. Out of State Applicants must have valid Driver's License and acquire NC Driver's License within 60 days of hire.
  • Certificate of Completion Asbestos Operation Maintenance and Removal Training within one year of hire.
  • Certificate of Completion Entry Permit Confined Space Training within one year of hire.
  • Current certification by the Environmental Protection Agency as a Type I, II, III or Universal technician as required by Title 40, Code of Federal Regulations part 82, subpart F.
  • Respirator medical evaluation is required to verify the individual's ability to wear and use a respirator. This is a condition of employment.
