GENERAL DESCRIPTIONUnder the supervision of the Director of Athletics, the Intramurals and Recreation Coordinator manages and operates the intramural and recreation program in accordance with the purposes and policies of the Keating Sports Center and Illinois Tech Athletic Department. The Intramurals and Recreation Coordinator is responsible for the supervision of staff, fiscal operations, program development, marketing/public relations, participant retention, and customer service related to the intramural & recreation programs at Illinois Tech.

COMMUNICATIONSWritten, verbal, and electronic communication are essential for this position. A large portion of this position will be interaction with internal staff and external constituents.
CUSTOMER SERVICECustomer service is crucial for this position. Student interaction and understanding of their needs is paramount for the success of the intramural activities and club events. This would require calibration with the Campus of Student Life. External relationships are a significant area, and relationships will be cultivated via the community affairs office and meetings with specific groups.
Special Schedule RequirementsHours of work will typically be from 8:30AM-5:00PM or 1:00PM - 9:00 PM, and/or as required by the Athletic Director. Some evening and weekend hours necessary.

All qualified applicants will receive equal consideration for employment.QualificationsEducation & ExperienceBachelor's degree and 2-3 years of professional experience in campus recreation including customer service, recreational programming, sports leagues, human relations required, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Master's degree preferred.
Knowledge & SkillsUnderstanding of youth and community sports programming. Must have the ability to work with and/or collaborate with community organizations such as the YMCA, park district, and boys and girls' clubs. Demonstrated skills in sport league coordination. Demonstrated coordination of special events. Demonstrate supervisory skills; demonstrate excellent communication skills, both written and oral; demonstrate ability to create and develop new programs; demonstrate ability to market programs and manage budgets; and demonstrate working knowledge of ongoing intramural programming.
SUPERVISION & BUDGET AUTHORITYThis position will supervise at least 20-40 student workers each semester. Number of students supervised is dependent upon number of events offered. Budget authority for $40K
Physical Environment and RequirementsThe position will be generally an office environment but participation in an indoor recreation setting and occasionally outdoor environment will be necessary. Ability to occasionally lift equipment up to 50lbs required. Significant time standing up, walking across campus, and climbing stairs meeting with campus departments essential (50%).Certifications and LicensesList any certifications or licenses that are either required or helpful in performing the job, designating whether required or preferred.YMCA Program Director certification desired, upon hiring will be required within one year. Membership with NIRSA (National Intramural-Recreation Sports Association) upon hiring will be required; preferably an active role in the organization.Key ResponsibilitiesKey ResponsibilityHires, trains, supervises and evaluates staff, including student employees, related to the intramural & recreation programs. Develops a preventive maintenance program for all equipment related to the intramural & recreational programming area. Collaborates with co-workers, organizations and agencies in the community that help to reach the objectives of the Keating Sports Center and Illinois Tech Athletic Department. Monitor the use, storage, and distribution of intramural inventory.

Key ResponsibilityProvides a variety of sports related activities to the Illinois Tech community including sports leagues, tournaments, fitness classes, etc. Working closely with Campus Life and Student Orgs providing space for their usage, and coordinating events for our general student body, faculty, and staff. Oversees coordination and scheduling of fitness classes, athletic clubs, intramural leagues and tournaments. With existing budget, hire and schedule qualified and skilled instructors for classes.

Key ResponsibilityDevelops a comprehensive marketing plan for all intramural leagues, special events, and collaborative sports programs, including athletic clubs. Aids in student, faculty, and staff retention and recruitment. Communicate effectively with team captains, officials, and Intramural Supervisors. Attend all Orientation (SOAR) and Admissions Events (Discover Days, etc.) to promote intramural and recreational programs.

Key ResponsibilityDevelops written policies and procedures as needed, including risk management procedures, to conduct the intramural and recreation program in the best and safest manner for the Keating Sports Center. Develop and coordinate an officials' training and evaluation program.

Key ResponsibilityDevelops and manages the approved income and expense budgets of intramural and recreation program. Attends all necessary meetings. Assumes responsibility for supervision of IIT Athletic facilities as they relate to the programs and as needed.
