Oliver James is partnered with a well-established financial services organization in Boston that is seeking a Manager of Accounting Policy & SEC Reporting to join their Accounting Control function. This highly visible role will be responsible for overseeing accounting policy, technical accounting matters, and SOX compliance activities.You’ll play a key role in interpreting and implementing new accounting standards, evaluating transactions for proper accounting treatment, and providing guidance on SEC reporting requirements. This position also manages SOX compliance efforts, working closely with process owners, internal/external auditors, and senior leadership to ensure effective controls and accurate financial reporting. The role includes managing one direct report.Key Responsibilities:Develop, maintain, and communicate accounting policies in line with GAAP and SEC requirements.Monitor emerging FASB/SEC standards, evaluate impact, and drive implementation.Lead SOX 404/302 compliance activities, including risk assessments, documentation, and remediation of control deficiencies.Provide technical accounting research, analysis, and recommendations on new products, transactions, or business activities.Partner with auditors and internal stakeholders to support audit readiness and regulatory compliance.Manage and mentor a Senior SOX Compliance Analyst.Support special projects, system implementations, and other accounting initiatives as needed.Qualifications:Bachelor’s degree in Accounting; CPA required.6-10+ years of accounting experience, ideally with both public accounting and corporate accounting exposure.Strong technical knowledge of GAAP, financial instruments, and SEC reporting.Hands-on SOX 404 experience with a strong understanding of internal controls.Financial services or banking industry background required. * Exposure to investments reporting (specifically derivatives) a plus.Excellent analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills.
