- Using computer-aided drafting software creates accurate and complete structural details by referencing engineering computations, utilizing engineering theory, reviewing project-specific data, and following proper detailing procedures and office standards
- Obtains records and information for use in structural details. Verifies and makes corrections and additions to structural details
- Calculates estimated quantities of materials required for contract bidding, construction, and project costs
- Communicates with designers to ensure structural drawings comply with engineering computations
- Recommends minor adjustments in design to achieve simplicity and constructability
- Utilizes trigonometry, algebra, and geometry to calculate reinforcing steel lengths and laps, girder piece lengths, cross-frame lengths, gusset plate dimensions, etc.
- Participates in the review of drafting standards
- Participates in technician meetings to review detailing standards
- Knowledge of drafting principles, practices, standards, and office policies that relate to structural detailing
- Understanding of the practical applications of algebra, trigonometry, and geometry
- Skilled in the use of computer-aided design and drafting software (Microstation and AutoCAD), word processing (Word or WordPerfect), and spreadsheet (Excel or Quattro Pro) computer applications
- Ability to produce clean, legible, and organized work
- Ability to give attention to details and work under pressure
- Ability to work well with others
