We strive to cultivate a representative team of teachers and leaders that reflect our students' diversityJob DescriptionUnder the direction of the School Leader or other certificated employee, the Instructional Aide/After School Instructor will assist by performing a variety of instructional support duties to individual or small groups of students within the special education setting or regular classroom, during and after school hours. These duties shall be designed to complement the instructional program to maximize the learning opportunity for the inclusion student. The Instructional Aide will also assist in the establishment and implementation of appropriate classroom and school-wide behavior and perform a routine of clerical tasks as assigned.In addition, the Instructional Aide/After School Instructor will work directly with a group of 60-80 elementary school students, providing homework assistance, academic support and enrichment activities after school on site at KIPP Bayview Elementary. Candidate's ability to establish authority through leadership, communication, and most importantly patience, is essential to success.Must be able to commit to working throughout the entire school year.This role is paid over a 12 month period, including scheduled school breaks and summer break. The salary range for this position is $20.92 - $24.84 / hour. This rate, coupled with the additional 60 days of school break pay we offer, results in annualized pay that is, on average, significantly more than our district peers.QualificationsExperience:● A minimum of 1-2 years work experience in a youth development organization planning and supervising activities based on the developmental needs of young people, or equivalent experience.Required Education/Certifications:CPR/First Aid CertificationTitle I paraprofessionals whose duties include instructional support must have:High school diploma or the equivalent, and one of the below:A.A. degree orB.A. degree (or minimum 48 units in process) orPass the ETS ParaPro Assessment (passing score = 460)Pass the CBEST examsKnowledge/skills required:
  • Strong communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Ability to deal effectively with youth from diverse backgrounds.
  • Demonstrated ability working with young people, parents and community leaders.
  • Have proficient knowledge of Google Suite applications (Google Classroom, Hangout, Docs, Sheets, Slides, etc.)

Essential Functions and Responsibilities
  • Implement after school activities within assigned core program areas, including academic assistance, homework club, fitness/recreation, arts, and enrichment activities.
  • Assist in documenting program schedules, lesson plans, curriculum, youth participation and outcomes
  • Use positive behavior and classroom management techniques with children.
  • Accurately track student attendance (sign-in/sign-out sheets) on a daily basis.
  • Assist with after school program registration, customer service, and community outreach.
  • Maintain high standards of health and safety to ensure the safety of students, staff members and others.
  • Participate in all after school activities including preparation, set-up, take-down and clean-up to ensure facility cleanliness.
  • Communicate and work effectively with students, staff, parents, school personnel, and community partners.
  • Under the direction of the Lead Teacher, work with students in small groups or in one-to-one assignments to tutor, reinforce, or follow up learning activities in core academic, language, and/or specialized subject areas.
  • Assist in establishing and maintaining a clean, safe, and cooperative classroom and learning environment.
  • Prepare and set up instructional materials and/or equipment for use in classroom activities; maintain instructional material and equipment.
  • Assist classroom teachers in creating curriculum modifications for students.
  • Provide testing accommodations, including supervising students completing tests in a separate location or during an extended time.
  • Review and correct student work assignments.
  • Assist in the implementation of behavior intervention plans which may involve use of approved positive reinforcement strategies, behavior modification, other skills or knowledge to establish and maintain appropriate behaviors.
  • Facilitate and support social interactions and foster the development of positive relationships between students with disabilities and their non-disabled peers.
  • Assist all students by modeling appropriate behavior and attitudes and providing emotional support and general guidance.
  • Support students to be active participants on field trips and school assemblies or productions.
  • Support students in community-based life skills activities such as using public transportation, shopping, and ordering food as directed by the Education Specialist.
  • Perform other related duties as required and assigned.
Physical, Mental and Environmental DemandsPhysical: Ability to navigate school and classroom settings. Ability to access and utilize technology. Occasional lifting/carrying of equipment 1-35 lbs. Physical agility to move self in various positions in order to execute duties effectively, which may include frequent kneeling, walking, pushing/pulling, squatting, twisting, turning, bending, stooping and reaching overhead.Mental: Stress of deadlines and normal work standards, ability to analyze problems and generate alternatives, work with interruptions, concentrate for long periods of time, read, calculate, perform routine math problems, memorize and recall objects and people.Environmental: School and in-person classroom environment subject to constant interruptions and distractions. Adhere to KIPP's health and safety guidelines as outlined by the CDC, CDE, and public health agencies' recommendations.Classification and ScheduleThis is a full time, non-exempt position based on a school year calendar cycle and time off policy, located at our school sites.This role is paid over a 12 month period, including scheduled school breaks and summer break.
