  • The Department Director is responsible for all departmental functions in support of the hospital mission, vision, and facility goals.
  • The Director identifies the cost-effective systems needed to support the business of the department taking into account business trends, resource availability and changes in customers.
  • This position establishes effective working relationships with all constituencies including patients, physicians, employees, volunteers and vendors.
  • The Director identifies and remedies through continuous customer satisfaction data and employee involvement.
  • The Department Director works with Senior Management in meeting Facility goals.
  • Director has the responsibility and authority of planning, organizing, controlling, coordinating and evaluating the activities and functions of the Health Information Department.
  • Responsible for confidential, security and integrity data training including conforming to HIPAA laws and regulations.
  • Responsible for software monitoring and introductory training (to include working directly with physicians), is support of hospital E.H.R. Services as a resource to hospital staff, administration, Medical Staff, and other Departments.

  • Graduate of Health information Management Program with RHIA certification or an RHIT with an equivalent amount of practical experience and formal education and at least five (5) years in a supervisory capacity in the Health Information Management Department.

  • Manages the Joint Commission EHR survey process, EHR Medicare survey process, and monitors hospital-wide adherence to all requirements.
  • Directs activity to ensure a coordinated effort to fulfill responsibilities within the long-range plan, mission, vision, and values of the hospital.
  • Implements and evaluates appropriate programs as requested by Senior Management.
  • Maintains records and collects statistical data for administrative decision-making and regulatory purposes.
  • Assist in workflow development and system customization
  • Submit and manage support tickets to Director and/or AMS customer support as needed
  • Implement policies, procedures and associated training plans for the EHR
  • Provide training on proper use of EHR
  • Support go-live events, per director
  • Troubleshoot identified problems
  • Identify, document and track issues, escalating as appropriate for timely resolution
  • Maintain application appropriate documentation
  • Attends meetings as needed
  • Acts as a liaison between hospital medical records and secondary agencies requesting information. Acts as legal counsel to other departments addressing confidentiality, retention, and disclosure issues.
  • Offers statistical information when needed to aid in administrative decision making, quality of care issues, and to ensure accurate information and maintain integrity of data. Establishes retention guidelines for Health Information and assist other departments concerning retention of health records.
  • Collects, submits and maintains records needed to meet state, local and government agency requirements.
  • Works closely with Business Services to ensure timely completion of billing process.
  • Ensures honesty and integrity of data submitted for indexing and medical staff credentialing purposes.
  • Monitors physician delinquency for chart completion, lacking history and physicals, and lacking operative reports. Reports this information to the appropriate medical staff P1 committee.
  • Keeps abreast of coding changes and record documentation requirements by all state, local and federal government agencies (TMF,JCAHO,COP,TDH)
  • Follows the hospital medical staff rules and regulations regarding record completion, documentation requirements, and medical staff credentialing procedures.
