DESCRIPTIONAWS Applications and Higher Level Abstractions (Apps) provides horizontal and industry vertical applications for business users with the same on-demand scalability, reliability, pay-as-you-go pricing, and machine learning expertise that drive AWS services. The AWS Applications group includes services such as Amazon Connect (a cost-effective cloud contact center), our End User Computing (including Amazon Workspaces, AppStream, etc.), Marketing Tech (Amazon Pinpoint), and Autonomous Checkout and Identity Services (Just Walk Out, Amazon One) for retail, sports, travel, and other verticals.Are you interested in applying machine learning to improve the customer shopping experience in grocery stores? We are an engineering team shipping innovative algorithms running in the cloud and at the edge on the Amazon Dash Cart to provide shoppers a better shopping experience.The Amazon Dash Cart is a smart shopping cart that has a variety of sensors to provide a real-time receipt of a customers basket and the ability to bag as they shop. Once done, they can bypass the checkout process and just walk out. The Amazon Dash Cart also provides a number of convenience features like finding items with store maps and weighing produce in the basket. Amazon Dash Cart's are available at Amazon Fresh, Whole Foods, and Mceever's Market. We collaborate closely with scientists to find the best algorithms to provide a great experience for shoppers while also meeting merchants needs. Once we have found the right algorithm, our team owns the design, implementation, deployment, and operation of the ML system in production.Key job responsibilities
  • Collaborate with scientists to understand business objectives, product requirements and develop ML algorithms that achieve them.
  • Design and implement production ML pipelines
  • Deploy ML pipelines and models to production systems and operate them including monitoring and troubleshooting

- 2+ years of non-internship design or architecture (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience
- Experience programming with at least one software programming languagePREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS- 3+ years of full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations experience
- Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent
- Experience with C++, Python, and Rust
- Experience with Machine Learning, Deep Learning, and/or Robotics Perception
- Experience with hardware integration (e.g. neural network accelerators, hardware release cycles)

The base pay for this position ranges from $115,000/year in our lowest geographic market up to $223,600/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
