Summary:
  • The NA Director of Engineering directs all aspects of project and capital engineering activities for the company.
  • This role holds oversight for all automation, robotics, mechanical, electrical, and project engineering activities for large-scale, upgrades, expansions, facility layouts and new installations.
  • This leader will foster innovation and execute strategies to meet objectives, ensure reliability and exceed customer expectations for large capital projects.
  • The ability to contribute to, understand and communicate the overall corporate strategies and objectives and how the engineering function drives this strategy will be critical.
Responsibilities:
  • Manage strategic operations of the Engineering team across 8 facilities. Provide direction to engineering projects, new installations, overhauls, modifications, upgrades, design, and layout for new and existing facilities
  • Provide engineering leadership to food processing and packaging equipment capacity projects, infrastructure improvements, cost management imperatives and strategic initiatives
  • Collaboration with operations, R&D, procurement, and external suppliers/vendors
  • Drive standardization and serve as a technical liaison between the manufacturing plants
  • Identifies resource needs and organizes effective teams
  • Leads technical-based program across manufacturing
  • Coach, direct, and influence Engineering Managers and Plant Managers at each site
  • Report directly to the VP of Operations
  • Travel 25% or less per year including trips to Canada and Mexico as needed
Requirements:
  • BS Engineering Degree is required; prefer in Mechanical, or Electrical Engineering. MBA, Masters, Lean /Six-sigma or related education / certifications is preferred
  • Minimum of 8 - 15 years of project engineering experience, with a focus on process/packaging design and project management of large capital initiatives
  • Experience managing projects of $5 - $10 million or higher
  • Functional excellence and demonstrated subject matter expertise in packaging, processing, project management and LSS/TPM with a strong emphasis in food processing, and high-speed packaging environments
  • Must have experience with high-speed packaging equipment, prefer industry experience with foods, beverages, baking, CPG, plastics or closely related industries
  • Proven project management leadership skills with the ability to manage multiple projects
  • Able to manage and track project scope, schedule, budget, timeline and spending
  • Excellent communication/presentation skills with an ability to negotiate with vendors, contractors, and consultants
  • Team building skills are required to manage and lead cross-functional teams
  • Able to make independent and sound decisions
  • Computer skills include familiarity with Excel, Word, PowerPoint, MS project CAD and SAP
  • Self-starter with good people and communications skills
  • Able to work effectively in a team environment with demonstrated success in influencing at all levels inside as well as outside the company
  • Able to provide analysis of options and improvements
  • Solid project management capabilities, as the position is responsible from concept through process validation
  • Passport is required for future travel to Mexico and or Canada
