Department name: Lab CBMCJob Overview: The Lab Manager manages the area of responsibilities under the direction of the Laboratory Director and Medical Director with the guidance of the Chairman of the Department of Pathology. They will assume the responsibility of organizing and managing the workflow and resources, meeting department and hospital goals ,expectations and quality indicators, maintaining safe working environment and able to comply and meet federal, state and local regulatory requirements. Performs additional tasks as requested by the Department of Pathology Chairman or designee.Qualifications:
Required:
- Bachelor degree in clinical laboratory science, chemical, physical , biological or equivalent to the requirement of a technical personnel qualification based on CLIA and CAP
- Minimum of 5 years in a supervisory or leadership role in area of responsibility
- ASCP or AMT certification

- Ensures and oversees the Department Quality Assurance Plan.
- Prepares, implements and evaluates Pathology quality control/assurance/improvement plans in cooperation with Chairman and Chief of Quality Control Assurance Section and Improvement. Evaluates problems or events for trends and suggests alternative for corrective action and implements corrective action. May conduct periodic quality control and safety surveillance. Assists with the purchase of Proficiency Surveys to meet the recommendations of CLIA/CAP. Monitors receipt of surveys, reporting, result submission of evaluations to Chief of Quality Assurance and Chairman of Pathology. Completes a monthly laboratory utilization report, and prepares Turnaround Time Report for routine tests and stat approved tests. Investigates, evaluates and responds to incident reports, Emergency Department Problem Reports, QRM transmittals, Press Ganey Surveys and patient's complaint
- Oversee all the assigned laboratory sections
- Ensures adequate coverage in the areas of responsibility,. Ensure timely service and accurate results. Develops methods to ensure patient satisfaction and facilitates corrective actions. Reviews procedure manuals on a yearly basis and update, as necessary. Reviews the Laboratory Test Manual.
- Participates in committees and activities that further the departmental and medical center goals, both financial and operational.
- Assists in organizing the functions of the department and in implementing plans to meet the departmental objectives. Assumes responsibilities of the Department Head in his/her absence. Participates in Medical Center committees and professional activities, which define the delivery of Pathology services. Assists in preparing proposals, reports and memorandums regarding activities of the section, interacts with departmental staff and some other departments within the Medical Center. Assists in implementing the control and effective utilization of physical and financial resources of the department; assists in employing a system of responsible accounting, including budget and internal controls. Maintains supply inventory for areas of responsibility. Assists in ensuring compliance with standards for accreditation by JCAHO, CAP and AABB, and assists in reviewing and acting upon reports of authorized inspection agencies; assists in ensuring compliance with safety and infection control policies and procedures (Safety Manual, Infection Control Manual).
