Employees in the Engineer II position solve complex problems in engineering areas of specialization with general supervision. An Engineer II is expected to develop advanced skills, and the ability to work with greater independence. An Engineer II effectively applies fundamental concepts and procedures to work that is fairly complex and varied.The Engineer III is the advancing level of the Engineering classification hierarchy. Employees at this level solve more complex problems in engineering areas of specialization with limited supervision. Incumbents are expected to develop advanced skills and the ability to work with even greater independence. They effectively apply fundamental concepts and procedures to work that is progressively complex and varied.The position is part of the Substation Engineering - Civil Engineering Team within Transmission Engineering -Duke Energy Carolinas (DEC). This position and the team are located in the Duke Energy Plaza in Charlotte, NC. The team is responsible for a wide variety of Civil Engineering activities associated with Transmission Substations including, but not limited to, the following:
  • Structural and foundation design, analysis, and testing for Substation structures and equipment
  • Site development and permitting support for new and expanding Substations
  • Design, implementation and maintenance of oil spill mitigation plans and measures (SPCC) for Substations in the Duke Energy Carolinas West Region
This Engineer position is expected to have a moderate degree of proficiency in structural and foundation design, analysis, and testing for Substation structures and equipment. This skill set will enable them to support and design planned project work, troubleshoot various Civil-related issues that arise across our region, provide QA support to external design resources, and actively support the growth and improvement of the Civil Team.Basic Required Qualifications - Engineer IIMust have obtained Bachelor of Science in Engineering from an ABET accredited programMinimum of 2 years of engineering experienceA Master's degree in Engineering will be considered in lieu of the B.S. Engineering degree.Basic Required Qualifications - Engineer IIIGraduation from a four-year college or university with a Bachelor of Science in Engineering from an ABET accredited program OR state registration as a Professional Engineer.
