
Associate Director of Family Philanthropy

- Establish personal relationships with an assigned pool of parents, to cultivate their support and solicit gifts of $100,000 to $5,000,0000.
- Build and advance strong relationships with current and past parents and grandparents of Middlebury that result in philanthropic contributions; serve as a resource, advocate, and spokesperson for development programs at Middlebury.
- Solicit an annual gift for the Parents’ Fund from each assigned prospect, either through a personal visit, collaboration with a volunteer, or through partnership with the Annual Giving program.
- Work closely with members of the Major Gifts team, Principal Gifts, Gift Planning, Annual Giving, Research, Stewardship and Special Events in strategizing, engagement, proposal development, gift solicitation and stewardship of constituents.
- In partnership with the Director, recruit, train, and manage a volunteer corps of high-capacity parent volunteers that make up the Family Philanthropy Circle.
- Plan and execute programming for on campus, regional and virtual events for parents. Collaborate with campus partners who impact parent constituents to achieve a stronger parent communication; more parent engagement; and positive, effective parent communications.
- Assist the Director in supporting Advancement colleagues with information pertinent to the student experience, and counsel in dealing with issues of concern to parents and families.
- In collaboration with the Director, assist with the planning, coordination and implementation of new Family of Wealth program – to achieve earlier outreach to young alumni and ongoing communication and solicitations of high-net-worth parents. Manage Family of Wealth prospects, as part of their assigned pool, as needed.
- Bachelor’s degree required, masters or post graduate degree or equivalent work experience preferred.
- Minimum 3 years fundraising and or volunteer management.
- Track record of raising five-figure and six-figure gifts over multiple years.
- Must possess a strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office software along with a competence in database and spreadsheet software.
- Ability to initiate as well as collaborate.
- Strong written and oral communication skills, and ability to translate internal information to an external audience both verbally and in writing.
- Strong administrative, organizational and analytical skills needed to establish strategic fundraising goals, monitor their progress, and report on results.
- Willingness, and ability, to travel extensively.
- Ability to effectively navigate within a complex, multi-campus setting where collaboration and teamwork are valued along with individual initiative and creativity.
