Athletic Director for Parish CYO Athletics ProgramReports To: Pastor or Pastor DelegatedClassification Level: StipendPosting Date: April 15, 2024Send Resume to: parishoffice@saintisaacjogues.comSUMMARYThe Athletic Director is responsible for the overall management of the Parish's Athletic Program as governed by the rules and requirements of the Catholic Youth Organization (CYO). This is a part-time position that demands late evening and weekend work, especially during the sports seasons.RECOMMENDED QUALIFICATIONS:1. Should possess a valid Michigan Teachers Certificate or degree in Sports Management.2. Should have at least five (3) years' teaching or youth management experience.3. Should have at least five (5) years' coaching experience.4. Display qualities of strong communication, organization and leadership, with an active interest in extracurricular athletic and school activities.ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:(Others may be assigned as determined to be necessary by the Pastor, the Business Manager and/or the School Principal.)
  • Organization and supervision of the entire athletic program.
  • Ensure that all sports programs incorporate Catholic values and faith as their number one priority and ensure that good-sportsmanship, teamwork, moral strength and fortitude are stressed at all levels of the program as the truest measure of success over winning.
  • As an employee of a Roman Catholic parish, the candidate must be a practicing Catholic in good standing.
  • In the performance of the duties of the AD position, the AD must not to engage in, nor endorse, any actions or beliefs contrary to the teachings and standards of the Roman Catholic faith and morality and must conscientiously provide a Catholic role model for all participating in the Athletic program.
  • Make the decisions relative to the number of teams entered in the program based on the number of participating athletes and the availability of coaches. This is to be done with the assistance of the St. Isaac Jogues Chargers' Youth Organization as deemed necessary by the AD.
  • Recruit and train qualified coaches for all teams.
  • Make decisions relative to the participation of the various teams in tournaments.
  • Attend all regularly scheduled Committee meetings.
  • Ensure that roster forms for all teams are filled out correctly and submitted to CYO office on time.
  • Coordinate the scheduling of practice and game facilities with the parish office and teams.
  • Ensure that all St. Isaac Jogues Chargers Youth Organization sponsored programs are operated within the policies and guidelines set forth in the Constitution and By-laws and the rules and regulations of the Catholic Youth Organization.
  • Confirm that all players meet eligibility requirements and have submitted the appropriate forms and records pertaining to physical exams and CYO-based records.
  • Coordinate and publish tryout dates, times and locations in parish and school publications. Work with coaches to avoid conflicts between tryouts and in-season sports to ensure that all eligible participants have an equal opportunity to try-out for a team.
  • In matters pertaining to the CYO and its meetings, act as the official CYO parish representative to assure coordination between the St. Isaac Jogues Parish and CYO headquarters.
