
Laboratory Technician

Ability to follow detailed instructions for safe laboratory practices, waste handling, and quality tests. * Practice hazard recognition in daily work activities. Seek to improve and promote the safety, housekeeping, environmental and efficiency in the work area.
- Deliver accurate and timely test results while consistently exhibiting the Lubrizol culture.
- Ensure all test protocols comply according to the test procedure; internal Lubrizol test methods and industry-recognized test methods (ASTM, etc.).
- Articulate and communicate with peers, chemists, managers, and Requesters/customers. Provide timely status updates. Work with Requesters on special testing requests, including an area chemist, when necessary and follow-up as appropriate based on questions or concerns.
- Must be able to identify, troubleshoot, and work closely with others to resolve issues or problems. Appropriately elevate the situation to chemist, and/or manager when necessary.
- Recognize validity of test data. Screen data to ensure accuracy prior to uploading results. Notify area chemist and manager regarding non-conformances and work to identify root causes of inconsistent test data.
- Enter and upload test data into Excel and/or Lubrizol internal software.
- Facilitate sample flow between work area and other areas in the department. Communicate issues to appropriate personnel.
- Recognize priority conflicts of testing; prioritize and communicate test schedules with manager.
- Strong ability to manage time. Strong ability to maintain organization.
- Additional duties as assigned.
- BA/BS in a Science related field, Chemistry preferred
- Minimum two-year lab experience in industry setting
- Experience with ASTM test methods, a plus
- Experience with ISO 9001 and ISO 17025 laboratory accreditation, a plus
- Familiarity with 5S, a plus
- Computer skills (MS Office). Position also requires use of various internal mainframe applications; Scheduler/Inventory, Measurements, Information Warehouse, and others
- The ability to work in a fast-paced environment
- Strong interpersonal communication skills (verbal and written)
- Industry test method and procedure reviews, and procedure update
- Ability to work independently (once training is complete)
- The ability to function in a team environment by working well with others

- Laboratory environment that requires standing or sitting for extended periods of time
- Lifting sample cans and associated equipment not greater than 50 pounds.
- Requires use of appropriate Engineering Controls, PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) and adherence to Lab Safety practices to ensure you are properly protected
- May utilize a variety of different chemicals to complete required testing.
