Help support democracy worldwide by joining our team!About the RoleThe Citizen Participation and Inclusion team is working globally to build the power and influence of activists campaigning for the equal rights of all people and seeks a Temporary Project Assistant who will provide administrative and logistical support to a global grantmaking program that works with civil society organizations representing marginalized populations in more than 50 countries. The program provides small grants to grassroots organizations representing lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer and intersex (LGBTQI+) communities, people with disabilities, and religious minorities. The position will be based in Washington, DC and is a paid temporary (3 months with the option to extend to 6 months) position. Language proficiency in French is required for this position.Your Purpose and Impact:
  • Assist the Citizen Participation and Inclusion team in organizing and implementing a global small grants program supporting marginalized communities
  • Assist as needed in providing administrative support to assigned projects, such as coordinating travel for staff/consultants/participants, processing payment requests, filing/copying/shipping documents, and other tasks related to backstopping field office activities and event planning
  • Provide translation of documents from French into English
  • Collect and distribute to the Citizen Participation and Inclusion team news updates related to countries where grantee partners operate
  • Update data on grantee partners and the progress of locally funded initiatives
  • Conduct special projects as needed
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree with coursework in political science, international relations, regional studies or additional years of relevant work experience may be substituted for educational requirement on a one-for-one basis
  • Proficiency in French (speaking, reading, writing)
  • Knowledge of, experience and interest in working with marginalized communities
  • Strong attention to detail with experience prioritizing and managing multiple tasks
  • Excellent writing and interpersonal skills
  • Experience with event planning and managing logistics is strongly desired
  • Experience with Google Apps (Gmail, Calendar, Google Drive, G+, etc.) strongly desired

The hourly rate for candidates with a completed Bachelor's degree is $17.00. The hourly rate for candidates with a completed Master's degree is $18.00.*Please note – temporary hires at NDI are paid hourly, are classified as non-exempt, and are therefore eligible to receive overtime pay. Temporary employees are not eligible for benefits, including insurance and retirement plan benefits, and paid time off.
