Job Summary:The Unit Secretary-Acute Care Tech performs under the direct supervision of the RN and is organizationally accountable to the Patient Care Manager. When performing Unit Secretary duties, is responsible for the secretarial aspects of patient care and the environmental management of the work unit. Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide reliable assistance to the members of the team including nurses, manager, and physicians. Demonstrates good customer service skills when interacting with patients, visitors, and co-workers. Helps ensure that the unit runs efficiently. When performing Acute Care Tech duties, he/she is involved in the implementation phase of the nursing process and is delegated tasks to achieve quality patient care. Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide technical care appropriate to the age of the patients served; also demonstrates knowledge of the principles of growth and development and possesses the ability to collect data and relays appropriate data to nurse, status and interprets the appropriate information needed to identify each patient’s requirements relative to his/her age specific needs, and to provide the care needed.Performance Expectations:
  • Demonstrate the ability to be organized regarding and knowledgeable to secretarial aspects of patient care and operating equipment to include but not limited to: phone, fax, scanner, label printer, computer, printer, call light, SCD, cold therapy machine, glucose monitor, blood pressure machine, manual blood pressure cuff, electronic thermometer, and patient bed.
  • Demonstrate customer service skills and professional interaction with patients, visitors, and co-workers.
  • Takes the initiative when delegated tasks, such as obtaining lab specimens, vital signs, applying pertinent equipment/supplies to the patient such as EKG leads, anti-embolism hose, TEDs, and comfort measures to provide the appropriate technical care of collecting data, relaying the applicable information needed and collaborating with the nurse to identify the patient’s needs.

Qualifications:Education/Skills:High School Diploma/GED and completion of an approved Nurse Aide training course or successful completion of Acute Care Technician course at FGH during clinical orientation required. Will meet requirements of Primary Stroke Center.Work Experience:Prior experience working as a Nurse Aide, Acute Care Tech, and/or Unit Secretary preferred.Additional Certification/Licensure - Obtained based on required timeframe below
