Department: 38590 API Specialty Pharmacy - Retail PharmacyStatus: Full timeBenefits Eligible: YesHours Per Week: 40Schedule Details/Additional Information:hours between 8am-6pm. Occasional saturdays 9-1Major Responsibilities:
  • Performs services and functions within assigned area(s) where complex pharmaceutical processes require the utilization of advanced skills and knowledge beyond those obtained as a Pharmacy Technician. Works in atypical environments such as compounding, remote dispensaries, or medication history.
  • Serves as an expert with equipment and technology in specialized areas. Problem solves technical issues in the specialized area as they arise.
  • Identifies quality improvement opportunities based on specialized skill set to ensure safe, effective, and efficient services and patient care. Provides input to and supports implementation of operational changes, advancements, and site and system standardization. Participates in site or system specialized work teams, committees, and councils.
  • Is a Role model in clinical support needs such as but not limited to DIR fees.
  • Complies with legal, regulatory, and accreditation standards. Keeps current with changes in the specialized field and collaborates with department leadership to adopt best practices. Holds others accountable to best practices in the specialized area.
  • Serves as a resource in the specialized area for other pharmacy team members, physicians, nurses, and ancillary departments. Problem solves complex problems and ensures that issues are escalated and closed as needed.
  • Collaborates with department leaders to develop and coordinate team member education, training, orientation, and competency. Trains other team members in specialized areas.
  • Serves as the department liaison to system pharmacy teams in specialty area. Collaborates with leadership to communicate changes in specialty area.
  • Must be able to demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served. Must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to his/her age-specific needs, and to provide the care needed as described in the department's policies and procedures. Age-specific information is developed further in the departmental job standards.
Licensure, Registration, and/or Certification Required:
  • Pharmacy Technician certification (CPhT) issued by the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board needs to be obtained within 2 years, or
  • Pharmacy Technician Certified (ExCPT) issued by the National Healthcareer Association needs to be obtained within 2 years.
  • If working in WI: Registered as a Pharmacy Technician through Wisconsin Department of Safety and Professional Services, application must be submitted prior to start date.
  • If working in IL: Registered as a Pharmacy Technician through Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation, application must be submitted prior to start date with license obtained within 60 days of date of submission.
Education Required:
  • High School Graduate.
Experience Required:
  • Typically requires 5 years of experience in providing services as a Pharmacy Technician, depending on specialty area.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required:
  • Good mathematical skills
  • Attention to details
  • Exceptional customer service, communication, organization, problem resolution and process development skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently, maintain confidentiality, and take initiative.
  • Advanced computer skills
  • If applicable per assigned work location and workflow scope, diabetic shoe fitting certification is required and will be obtained through on the job training.
  • Life support training courses may be required dependent on department discretion.
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:
  • Ability to stand for long periods of time.
  • Ability to walk, lift, squat, bend, twist, crawl, kneel, climb and reach about shoulders throughout the work day.
  • Lifts, carries and/or pushes/pulls various items (bags, boxes, carts, etc.) while utilizing proper technique.
  • Ability to deliver medications to via patient preferred mode (bedside, curbside, etc)
  • Flexibility to travel amongst Aurora Pharmacy locations
  • Must be able to:
  • lift up to 35 lbs from floor to chest-level.
  • lift and carry up to 35 lbs at waist height a reasonable distance.
  • Must be able to:
  • push/pull with 30 lbs of force.
