The Non-Public School serves high school students whose mental health symptoms impair their ability to access and succeed in their education. The students are supported by a multidisciplinary team of clinicians, teachers, behavior support staff, drivers, and program management. The team works closely with the students, their families, and outside agencies to support the student's academic and therapeutic goals.Position Description
- The Therapist and Care Managers provide intensive strategies to address any current need for stabilization, crisis intervention, and individual, family, and group therapy. Therapists and Care Managers must have strong clinical and advocacy skills, demonstrate flexibility, utilize a strengths-based approach, and experience working with children and adolescents with high mental health needs.
- Therapists and Care Managers work as an integral member of a multi-disciplinary milieu team that addresses the child or youth's educational, behavioral, and mental health needs. The Therapist and Care Manager adheres to all agency and Medi-Cal billing and documentation requirements and works with the Clinical Supervisor to identify policies, procedures, and training needs.
- Maintains a caseload of clients that facilitates the ability to meet client service hours goal as set by the agency.
- Provides clinical leadership in Non-Public school (NPS).
- Provides mental health screening and assessment of cognitive, emotional, and social functioning and needs; facilitates the identification and engagement in mental health services.
- Provides crisis intervention and stabilization when appropriate.
- Integrates psychological, social, cultural, medical, developmental, educational, and other relevant information into clinical service development and clinical case management plan for youth.
- Convenes planning meetings with adults in youths' support system to develop a Community Team for each youth (Care Team Meetings).
- Coordinates services with other agencies and resources to address youth's needs, including medical/physical health, mental health, education, employment, independent living skills, advocacy, placement stability, and age-appropriate enrichment activities.
- Assists youth in identifying and accessing community resources.
- Works collaboratively on behalf of clients as needed with Child Welfare Workers, Juvenile Justice Personnel, parents and caregivers, and other providers.
- Participates in youth's IEPs and school re-entry meetings.
- Attends youth court hearings as appropriate.
- Assists youth in developing and executing crisis prevention, safety, and transition plans.
- Complies with Edgewood Center for Children and Families and California State Boards' requirements pertaining to supervision, consultation, and case conference attendance.
- Understands and complies with policies, procedures, and deadlines related to record keeping, paperwork, and documentation for Edgewood Center and Medi-Cal billing purposes.
- Participates in agency and program meetings and professional development training as required.
- Work proactively with the Clinical Director or Clinical Supervisor to ensure the program's strength.
- Completes additional tasks as requested by the Clinical Director or Clinical Supervisor.
- Advanced degree (Master's or Doctorate) in clinical psychology, social work, or related field required. Current CA Board of Behavioral Science or Board of Psychology license and/or registration.
- California License Preferred (LCSW, LMFT, Licensed Psychologist)
- Based on our funding sources, the California Department of Mental Health requires all unlicensed psychologists to apply for a professional licensing waiver or show proof of valid waiver before the hire date.
- Direct clinical experience working with high-risk children and youth.
- Demonstrated clinical experience with foster care, DCFS, and community mental health systems.
- Bi-lingual Spanish or Cantonese (spoken and written) is preferred.
- Experience providing individual, family, and group therapy to children and adolescents.
- Experience working as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Experience in working in a milieu.
- Experience in working with diverse communities.
- Familiarity with San Francisco County resources.

- Knowledge of child and adolescent development, trauma, chemical dependency, dual diagnosis, and child abuse.

- Knowledge of or ability to learn Medi-Cal reimbursement procedures and billing.
- Prior knowledge and experience with Electronic Health Records (EHR) and Avatar, preferred
