Position Highlights:Position: Diabetes EducatorLocation: Addison, ILFull TimeHours: Mon- Fri 8:30a-5p with one early day start 7:30am and one late day end at 6:30pmWhat you will need:Education, Skills and/or Experience Required:Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing or higherEducation, Skills and/or Experience Preferred:Master’s Degree and/or minimum of five years of previous hospital experience as a Registered NurseA minimum of two years of previous diabetes education experienceClinical research and/or program development experienceLicense and/or Certification Required:Current State of Illinois Registered Nurse licenseCurrent CPR certification issued by the American Heart AssociationCertified Diabetes Care and Education Specialist (CDCES) required within two years of start date.General Summary:The RN Diabetes Educator plays a critical role in the glycemic management of the acutely ill diabetic patient during acute hospitalization. As a key member of the health care team, addresses medication management, tube feedings, renal functions and insulin drips for diabetic inpatients. In addition, assesses patient learning needs and provides education and motivation for patients who have, or are at risk of developing, diabetes. Educates patients with diabetes about the disease and disease management, including medications, diet, exercise, screening, and strategies for avoiding complications.
