Flexible Schedule: A Monday-Friday schedule varying between 5:30 am - 8:00 pm or until the last patient is dischargedAbout Short Stay Unit:The Short-Stay Unit is a 27-bed unit that cares for outpatient medical patients scheduled to have therapeutic or diagnostic procedures. These patients will receive treatments, nursing observation and care, then are admitted to the hospital or discharged from the unit that same day. The typical patient in this unit is post-procedure such as cardiac catheterization, radiology procedures, bronchoscopy, and IV infusions such as chemotherapy or blood transfusions.Nurses and Clinicians in this unit compose a highly independent, functioning staff with a major focus on quality patient care and satisfaction. Due to the brevity of patient stays this is a fast-paced unit that requires strong critical thinking skills and the ability to prioritize tasks.The hours for this position are Monday - Friday, varying between 5:30 am - 8:00 pm, or until the last patient is discharged. Up to 20 hours per week. There are no weekend or holiday requirements for this unit.Here's how we support our nurses:

  • 2 years of RN experience in an inpatient setting is strongly preferred.
  • IV experience is strongly preferred.
  • An Associates Degree in Nursing, BSN, or MSN is required.
  • Demonstrate the knowledge and skills needed to provide care and interact with all ages of patients. Understand the principles of growth and development over the lifespan.
  • Establish and maintain positive, caring relationships with patients and their families, executives, managers, physicians, non-physician providers, ancillary and support staff, and other departments.
  • Work productively and effectively in an environment with changing priorities that require specialized skills.
  • Think critically to analyze and problem-solve to deliver the best patient care. Use sound clinical judgment and problem-solving to deliver quality patient care when it matters most.
  • Understand, apply, and champion nursing best practices.
  • Ability to work productively and effectively within complex environments and handle multiple/changing priorities and specialized equipment.
  • Physical stamina for frequent walking, standing, lifting, and positioning of patients.
Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) within 12 months of hire
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) OR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) is required based on AHA standards that include both didactic and skills demonstration within 30 days of hire.
  • Registered Nurse (RN)
  • Current licensure either in the state where the facility is located or, if the facility is in a state covered by the multistate Nursing Licensure Compact (NLC) agreement, a multistate license issued by a participating NLC state.
  • Hires and current employees working on an out-of-state NLC license who later change their residency to the state where the facility is also located will have 60 days upon changing their residency to apply for licensure within that state.
  • UPMC-approved national certification preferred.
