  • Under the direction and supervision of the responsible Registered Nurse, performs specific patient care duties to meet safety and comfort needs of the patient using the nursing process.
  • Provides input to assist the RN in planning and implementing patient care.
  • Responds to emergent situations according to established procedures.
  • Recognizes and participates in own continuing education.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
  • MUST BE A GRADUATE OF DECEMBER 2026 OR LATER TO WORK IN ED
  • High school diploma or G.E.D. equivalent.
  • Enrolled in an accredited school of nursing (BSN schools preferred).
  • The completion of two clinical rotations, one of which must be Med/Surg (in an acute care setting).
  • To remain in the extern role you MUST: Actively be enrolled in a nursing program; Successfully complete each course; Provide transcripts to Nurse Manager after each course; Provide a copy of your plan of work to your Nurse Manager.
  • If at any point the extern does not meet their academic institution's standard for continued enrollment in the school of nursing classes, their employment as an extern will be rescinded.
  • BLS Healthcare provider to be completed during orientation.
  • Physical ability to lift and move patients, supplies, and equipment with appropriate technique/device.
  • Successful completion of 180-day introductory period required to achieve knowledge of policies relative to job duties and patient care unit.
