
RN Endoscopy Clinic

- Plans, implements and evaluates patient care needs in the endoscopy suite, including assessing patient’s condition pre-procedure and post-procedure recovery. Takes patient history, counsels patient, provides education, administers prescribed medications, and monitors vital signs.
- Assists physician throughout procedures. Documents patient care in the healthcare record according to established standards.
- Maintains proper care and handling of specimens.
- Recognizes emergency situations and assists in corrective action, including but not limited to ACLS protocol.
- Participates in the development of and maintains established policies, procedures and objectives; quality improvement; safety; environmental and infection prevention programs.
- Recognizes and reports hazardous equipment.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Accredited School of Nursing Required: Nursing
- 1 year preferred: Experience as a registered nurse.
- Required: Demonstrated knowledge of and ability to apply age specific principles of growth and development and life stages to meet each patient’s needs.
- Preferred: Endoscopy nursing experience and/or critical care experience.
- Required: Ability to provide conscious sedation.
- Required: Registered Nurse in state of practice.
- Required: Upon Hire Basic Life Support.
- Required: Advanced Cardiac Life Support.
- Must have Oregon RN license at time of hire
- Demonstrated ability to promote positive interpersonal relationships and patient/family centered work environment. (Required)
- Basic computer skills including MS Office applications. (Required)
- Effective organization and prioritization skills. (Required)
- Skill in venipuncture and administration of IV and oral medications. (Required)
- Ability to provide health education to patients. (Required)
- Adequate understanding of a wide variety of medical/surgical terminology and pathophysiology. (Required)
- Knowledge of Medicare, JCAHO & HCFA regulations pertaining to ambulatory care. (Required)
- Knowledge of actions of pharmaceuticals, sedating agents, and reversal drugs. (Required)
- Knowledge of endoscopy procedures and patient preparations, instruments and equipment, techniques, symptoms and complications, and consequent nursing interventions. (Required)
- Knowledge of basic infection control practices. (Required)
- Working knowledge of fluid and electrolyte balances. (Required)
- Thorough knowledge or and ability to implement principles of aseptic technique. (Required)
- Patient handling no greater than 35 lbs. without the use of assistive equipment and/or devices (NIOSH).
- Fine motor skills to be able to grasp and control medical equipment and perform precise procedures.
- Push/Pull: Frequently up to 45 lbs. force (i.e., WOW, medical carts).
- Perform hands on CPR at least 20 mins using 100-125 lbs. of force (National Assoc. of EMS Physicians and AHA) Frequency should be seldom or occasionally.
- Ability to move around area with frequent sitting.
- Bending/ stooping/ squatting/ reaching/ kneeling frequently.
- Lifting (non-patient) up to 20 lbs. occasionally and 5 lbs. frequently.
- Exposure to biohazard, body fluids and airborne particles.
- Must be able to complete tasks in a noisy environment.
- Vision and hearing required within normal limits (glasses, contacts, hearing aids permitted).
- Ability to communicate and exchange accurate information.
