- Responsible for optimizing the process control of the calciners, dryer, coal system, and associated operating equipment in the Mill Area
- While making sure that neither safety nor the environment is compromised, the incumbent ensures that the products manufactured in the Mill calciner Area are within required chemical specifications for in-plant consumption and are produced at the lowest possible cost
- Maintenance problems, which inhibit the efficient operation of the Mill Calcining & Drying equipment, are addressed either through modifications and the work order system, or by requesting capital funds for improvements
- Responsible for training that must be conducted to communicate changes in operating parameters as well as dealing with newly installed equipment
- Ensuring production tonnage meets or exceeds plan
- Maintaining the required quality specifications of both the dried rock and calcined rock
- Keeping costs low by improving the reliability of the operating equipment and optimizing the process
- Ensuring that all testing and monitoring for environmental compliance are completed according to schedule
- Monitoring and documenting all calcining and drying emissions data and as required in accordance with Title V and any other involved regulatory agency
- Ensuring that the appropriate actions are taken to prevent or address environmental noncompliance
- Requesting and applying capital funds to improve the calcining and drying operations
- Maintaining fuel consumption at efficient levels
- Participating in crew meetings monthly to improve safety and environmental awareness
- Troubleshooting operational delays reduce bottlenecks and identify mechanical problems
- Responsible for proper operation of all six WWet Electro Static Precipitator (environmental emission control equipment)
- Coordinating daily production and process trials with other departments
- Tracking performance and initiate process modifications, as necessary
- Bachelor of Science in Engineering is required. While a degree in Mining, Metallurgical Engineering or Mineral Processing is preferred, other engineering disciplines may be acceptable
- A minimum, of 5+ years of industrial experience in the mining industry is required
- A strong background within product conveying, mineral processing, chemical engineering, chemistry, materials handling, and familiarity with regulatory requirements with respect to emission monitoring and control is highly beneficial
- Prior practical experience within the cement, lime, mining or mineral processing industries, is desirable
- Able to work in a team-based environment
