EFFECTIVE: ImmediateJOB SUMMARY: The Director of Teaching, Learning and Professional Development shall be responsible for the district’s curriculum, teaching, learning and professional development.QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. - Master’s Degree in Curriculum and Instruction preferred along with valid administrative certificate.
- Must possess a valid Michigan Permanent, Continuing, Provisional, or Professional Teaching Certificate.
- Must possess a valid administrative certification.
- Strong curriculum and instructional background required, including knowledge of MiCiP School Improvement, Early/Middle College, MDE Partnership Program and PLCs.
- Working knowledge of the Common Core State Standards and College and Career Readiness Standards.
- Familiarity with educational research and assessment.
- Must possess good written and oral communication skills and possess the ability to interact positively with a broad spectrum of individuals and organizations.
- Must have experience and demonstrated success raising achievement with a diverse student population.
- Proven ability to work effectively with students, staff, administration, parents, booster clubs, organizations, and the community in general.
- Works cooperatively with the Superintendent, principals, instructional coaches, and teachers to evaluate and improve curricular programs, instructional methods and design, student performance, and assure the effective operation of educational programs and services.
- Supervises district research, testing and evaluation activities for the purposes of measuring the effectiveness of the educational program with particular attention to gathering, assessing, and disseminating new data regarding student achievement.
- Coordinates the district’s K-12 curriculum development to ensure that the scope and sequence, educational programs and methods and materials for instruction are based upon appropriate student needs and aligned with State and Board of Education goals and policies.
- Coordinates and reports on the school improvement process including: Student Assessment analysis and MiCiP accreditation.
- Coordinates such specialized areas as grant services, Title 1, Section 31a, and latch key to ensure program integration with other curricular and instructional programs.
- Works with the Superintendent, administrators, principals, instructional coaches, and teachers in managing the development and implementation of a strategic framework for the pursuit of instructional excellence.
- Assists in budget formulation for grant programs and prepares an annual curriculum and instruction budget.
- Synthesizes information into concise building level reports; manages reporting timelines and schedules.
- Assists principals, instructional coaches, and teachers in evaluating methods of reporting student progress to parents, making improvements as necessary.
- Provide support for NWEA, M-Step, SAT, PSAT and other intervention support assessments.
- Question and examine existing assumptions and practices in Romulus for the purpose of identifying areas for improvement and evaluating the feasibility of implementation of innovations within the division.
- Provides leadership and innovation for enhancing teaching and learning through the identification, evaluation, adoption, and integration of effective educational innovations into the curriculum.
- Formulates and provides a professional development program designed to support faculty in the design, development and delivery of curriculum and instruction using computer- mediated communications, cognitive and interactive media tools, and sound research- based course design for both local and distance learning opportunities.
- Establishes baseline data; tracks/records attendance at faculty training workshops; maintains course log by faculty by departments; analyzes outcomes based on training, service, and support provided to faculty; and monitors progress to achieve goals.
- Evaluate staff performance.
- Oversees professional development supervisor and instructional specialists.
- Establish a method for curriculum evaluation, implementation and alignment.
- The Superintendent reserves the right to assign duties and responsibilities as necessary.
