The New Orleans JCC is a state-of-the-art fitness center and pool, a leader in New Orleans early childhood education, a fun-filled summer day camp, and so much more. It is a place for adults to take an exercise class, an art class, or a dance class. A place for children and teens to experience learning through enrichment classes, sports leagues, family activities, and summer camps. The JCC is built on Jewish values but is welcome to everyone.The mission of the New Orleans Jewish Community Center is to promote and ensure the well-being of our Jewish community and to instill an understanding of Judaism and its heritage by providing a center where all can enjoy, learn, experience, and share in quality activities in a Jewish environment.In this position you will provide a mindful, effective, and safe group exercise to members participating in a Qigong/Tai Chi class. Qigong, a form of tai chi uses low-impact exercises to optimize energy within the body, mind, and spirit with the goal of improving health and wellbeing. There is additional focus on breath work, combined with speech sounds. Movements are typically gently and smooth, aimed for relaxation.What You'll Do:
  • Must be able to demonstrate effective instruction.
  • Have a broad range of experience, including working with seniors and athletes.
  • Must be able to create comprehensive training programs built around clients' individual needs and goals.
  • Will maintain logs of class attendance for classes taught.
  • Possess a strong awareness of anatomy and biomechanics.
  • Must teach classes in a fun safe and challenging manner. Classes must be designed to provide an effective exercise program in an entertaining manner.
  • Must Inspect the studio to insure lighting, temperature, sound system and equipment are all in top working condition. Reports problems and takes appropriate action.
  • Must offer Tai Chi/Qigong classes in a variety of settings as space and opportunities become available.
  • Have a desire to build a successful business in an entrepreneurial environment.
  • Must develop Tai Chi/Qigong class protocol or syllabus defining appropriate techniques and sequencing, including physical postures, breath, and meditation practices appropriate for the purpose of the class and the abilities of individual participants.

What You'll Bring
  • Experience teaching group fitness sessions preferred.
  • Experience working with participants with different ages, skill levels, and varying physical and emotional abilities highly preferred..
  • Possess a current group exercise instructor certification from ACE, AFAA/NASM, ACSM, NETA, NCCPT, or other NCCA nationally accredited specialty class certification required.
  • Posesses a current Adult/child/infant CPR/AED and First Aid certification from American Heart Association, American Red Cross or American Safety & Health Institute.
