Job Category: Human ResourcesJob Description:The Levy Group of Companies is seeking a Cafeteria Assistant to work at our Corporate Office location in Dearborn, MI.The Cafeteria Helper will be responsible for food preparation tasks according to health code standards for safe food preparation and handling at companies' Corporate Cafe. Provides customer service, maintains cleanliness of cafeteria and assists the chef with daily tasks.Responsibilities
Work in a safe manner, adhering to all local, state, OSHA and environmental regulations, including Wayne County Health Department.
Food Handling
Prepare coffee in commercial brewing unit
Carry food supplies, equipment and utensils to and from storage and workstation areas, occasionally in basement
Wash, peel and/or cut various foods to prepare for cooking or serving
Use manual and/or electric appliances to clean, peel, slice, and trim foods
Mix ingredients for a variety of salads
Set-up the salad bar with ice and food items, tending as needed during serving periods
Apportion and serve food to customers using dine-in and/or take-out plates and containers
Store food in designated containers and areas according to established procedures to prevent spoilage and ensure safe consumption
Handle hot foods and cookware to move items to and from hot oven, stove-top, griddle and steam table
Prepare hot or cold sandwiches to order
Cleanliness
Maintain cleanliness of workspace, serving areas and tabletops
Clear tables of used trays and dishes
Load dishes, glasses, and tableware into dishwashing machine
Clean all oversized pots, pans, utensils, and trays by hand
Maintain a weekly checklist of cleaning
Wear gloves and hair covering while preparing food and handling clean dishes and utensils
Inventory Handling
Notify chef as food and supplies are depleted to maintain required inventory
Receive and store food supplies in refrigerators, freezers, and other storage areas upon delivery according to established methods
Use approved tracking methods to ensure procedures are followed
Knowledge of proper food handling and food preparation procedures
Ability to operate commercial dishwasher
Physical Requirements
Stand and/or walk for extended periods of time on multiple types of surfaces: tile, rubber, anti-fatigue mats, and carpet
Maneuver in a limited-sized kitchen space that is shared with other food service workers
Lift up to 25 pounds, able to bend, kneel, and stoop
Handle a sharp knife safely
Perform multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment
Ability to climb stairs
Ability to push/pull 20 pounds
