JOB SUMMARY: We are looking for a highly capable Electrical and Acoustic Test Engineer with a strong background in audio measurement and digital signal processing. This role involves extensive testing of audio systems that integrate DSP algorithms, embedded firmware, power amplifiers, electro-acoustic transducers, and audio interconnects. The ideal candidate will be proficient with Audio Precision and Klippel systems and comfortable working across both analog and digital domains.QUALIFICATIONS/ REQUIREMENTS: The requirements listed below represent the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required to perform the essential functions of this job while exercising independent judgment and discretion.Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's or master's degree in electrical engineering, acoustics, or a related field.
  • Strong understanding of audio test methodologies, including various types of stimulus signals and signal analysis techniques, and the strengths and weaknesses of each one.
  • Strong understanding of digital signal processing, audio algorithms, and firmware integration.
  • Strong understanding of audio interface characteristics (e.g. balanced, unbalanced, floating) and the impedance interactions between interfaces.
  • Proficiency in scripting and automation (e.g., Python, MATLAB, Audio Precision macros).
  • Excellent problem-solving, communication, and documentation skills.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with real-time embedded systems.
  • Knowledge of audio communication protocols (e.g., analog, AES3, MADI, Dante, Milan).
  • Experience with Ethernet/IP network communications (experience with Wireshark analysis of network communications would be a plus).
  • Familiarity with hardware debugging tools (multimeters, oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers).
  • Familiarity with power amplifier architectures, switching power supplies, and thermal management.
  • Experience in automotive, consumer electronics, or professional audio industries.
EXPERIENCE:
  • 3+ years of experience in audio product testing, including hands-on experience with audio test systems such as Audio Precision and Klippel.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
  • Design and execute comprehensive test plans for audio systems, including transducers, amplifiers, DSP modules, and embedded firmware.
  • Operate and automate tests using Audio Precision and Klippel R&D/QC systems, as well as develop custom test systems and methods when needed.
  • Validate and characterize DSP algorithms (e.g., EQ, crossover, limiter) and their real-world performance, including when multiple devices and algorithms are combined into complex systems.
  • Collaborate with firmware and hardware teams to debug and optimize embedded audio processing algorithms.
  • Perform power amplifier testing, including amplifier efficiency, thermal behavior, and protection circuitry validation.
  • Develop and maintain automated test scripts using MATLAB, Python, or similar macros.
  • Analyze test data to identify performance trends, anomalies, and root causes.
  • Document test procedures, results, and recommendations in detailed engineering reports.
  • Support compliance testing and ensure adherence to relevant standards (e.g., IEC, AES, UL).
