OverviewTRC is currently seeking a junior-level Civil/Environmental Engineer with an interest in supporting broad-based engineering projects including site/civil, solid waste/landfill design, and remediation to join our Northern New England Engineering, Consulting, and Remediation Team. The ideal candidate should have excellent communication skills both written and verbal, 0 - 3 years of relevant experience, working knowledge of AutoCAD Civil 3D, and an Engineer-in-Training Certification.The position may work from TRC’s Portland or Augusta Maine offices with the option of working either fully in-office or with a hybrid arrangement of a minimum of 2 days in-office each week.
ResponsibilitiesThe position sits within a multi-disciplinary team that provides broad-based engineering design and consulting services for a wide variety of projects. Responsibilities include:
- Working with Project Managers, junior, & senior level engineers to:
- Conduct hydrologic analyses to support planning, development, permitting, and design of stormwater management systems;
- Design stormwater management systems adapted for specific development sectors in accordance with applicable local, state, or federal regulations;
- Perform civil/site design and planning to support various land development projects;
- Prepare grading and erosion and sedimentation control plans;
- Prepare technical design reports, compliance reports, and permit application packages;
- Prepare construction and industrial Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plans (SWPPPs);
- Prepare Spill Prevention Control and Countermeasure (SPCC) Plans;
- Prepare Analysis of Brownfield Clean-up Alternatives (ABCA) and Soil Management Plans;
- Prepare engineer’s construction cost estimates;
- Design and assist with implementation of site remediation measures;
- Support solid waste and landfill engineering projects including landfill design, landfill permitting, leachate collection system design, landfill capacity analysis calculations, cell development and waste placement plans, and other operational support; and
- Prepare natural resource permit application packages including the design of wetland and stream restoration, mitigation, and replication projects.
- Manage work performance for multiple dynamic projects, develop solutions to project challenges, and communicate proactively with senior staff.
- Execute field work and contractor oversight to support the collection of environmental data and/or perform construction quality assurance.
- Apply quality assurance and quality control procedures.
- Ability to make decisions and perform as an independent thinker but also collaborate with project team personnel.
- Advance career knowledge by attending continuing educational workshops, reviewing professional publications, establishing personal networks, participating in professional societies, etc.
- Travel (typically 10 to 15%) throughout the US, primarily in New England.
- 0-3 years of engineering or consulting experience
- Bachelor’s degree in related engineering field from an accredited university
- EIT (or ability to obtain within 12 months) preferred but not required
- Experience with or interest in acquiring AutoCAD Civil 3D software proficiency
- Excellent written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills
- Excellent technical/computer skills required
- Ability to work in a team environment and on multiple projects at the same time
- Valid driver’s license required

Salary RangeUSD $65,000.00 - USD $77,501.00 /Yr.
