Job Description:This position and application is open to current Rio Rico High School students.Reports To: Agriculture Science Instructor/Internship CoordinatorHours: 10 hours per week (Saturday, Sunday, and school holidays)Responsibilities:
  • Collecting, cleaning, grading, and storing eggs
  • Maintaining equipment and facilities on poultry farm:
  • Maintaining equipment and facilities on fish farm:
  • Confers with Agricultural Science Instructor to ascertain production requirements and to discuss condition of equipment and status of supplies.
  • Prepares worker attendance, egg production, feed consumption and poultry mortality reports.
  • Prepares worker attendance, fish production, feed consumption and poultry mortality reports.
  • Performs any combination of following duties on poultry farm: Catches chickens and places them in crates and poultry houses.
  • Performs any combination of following duties on fish farm: Catches fish and places them in tanks and fish bins.
  • Sanitizes poultry houses.
  • Spreads wood shavings over chicken coop floor, using shovel.
  • Cleans droppings and waste from floor, using broom and shovel, tractor, or manure-cleaning machine.
  • Dumps sacks of feed in feed bins and in feeders in brood houses.
  • Dumps sacks of feed in feed bins in fish house shed.
  • Fills water containers.
  • Repairs farm buildings, fences, and shipping crates, using hand tools.
  • Moves equipment, using wheelbarrow and cart; or carries equipment from one area to another.
  • Shovels manure onto manure spreader.
  • May stack and move crated eggs and poultry.
Qualifications:
  • Fundamental knowledge of agriculture industry required such as knowledge of basic terminology in plant and animal science, hydroponics, aquaculture, and nursery operations; identify standards of personal hygiene, sanitation, and safety.

  • Self-motivated with the able to multi-task § Ability to work well with others in the lab environment.
  • Ability to work in a hot/ cold, humid and fast-paced workplace
Physical Demands:
  • Lifting boxes, containers of feed, and equipment weighing up to 50 lbs.
  • Standing for extended periods of time
  • Extended exposure to farm heat and humidity, and handling plants and animals
  • Safe handling of farm equipment, including power tools
