*The Montgomery County Intermediate Unit is only accepting INTERNAL applications from current MCIU employees.*A vacancy exists for a Lead Teacher - Hearing & Vision Support position to work within the Office of Student Services at the Montgomery County Intermediate Unit. The Lead Teacher will serve as an instructional leader and team facilitator for the consolidated Hearing and Vision team. This role is designed to enhance service delivery, promote professional growth, and provide operational support to the Program Administrator. The Lead Teacher will help ensure consistency, quality, and alignment of services across age levels and instructional settings.Qualifications:
  • Minimum of 5 years experience as a Teacher of the Deaf/Hard of Hearing or Teacher of the Visually Impaired, including experience in at least two service areas (e.g., Birth–3, Early Childhood, School Age).
  • Demonstrated leadership experience (e.g., mentoring, team lead, curriculum development).
  • Master’s degree in education or a related field preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of IDEA, IFSP/IEP processes, and accessibility standards (e.g., UDL, assistive technology).
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work independently while supporting a diverse and geographically distributed team.
  • Commitment to inclusive practices, continuous improvement, and cross-disciplinary collaboration.
  • Valid Driver's License (this position requires travel throughout Montgomery County, PA).
  • Current child abuse, PA criminal clearance and FBI fingerprinting required (within one year from date of hire)
Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Maintain a modified caseload OR Evaluation Caseload
  • Instructional Support and Mentorship:
  • Provide coaching and mentoring to ToDs and TVIs, especially new hires, temporary staff (ESY), and staff transitioning between age levels.
  • Observe and provide non-evaluative feedback on instructional practices.
  • Promote use of evidence-based instructional strategies and accessible educational materials.
  • Program Coordination:
  • Assist with scheduling, coverage coordination, and staffing solutions in collaboration with the Program Administrator.
  • Help ensure service delivery aligns with IEP/IFSP mandates and best practices.
  • Professional Development:
  • Support Program Administrator with Leading and/or coordinating ongoing training sessions for staff, including compliance updates, instructional techniques, and assistive technology integration.
  • Support cross-training among team members to build capacity across Birth–3, Early Childhood, and School Age services.
  • Communication and Liaison Duties:
  • Serve as a communication bridge between the Program Administrator and the team.
  • Facilitate team meetings, support resolution of day-to-day concerns, and elevate system-level issues as needed.
  • Quality Assurance and Innovation:
  • Collaborate with the Program Administrator to monitor service quality and fidelity.
  • Assist in analyzing service data and identifying areas for improvement.
  • Encourage innovative practices to meet evolving student needs.
Location:
The Montgomery County Intermediate Unit is located in Norristown, PA and services children throughout Montgomery County, PA. This is an Itinerant position supporting students and programs throughout Montgomery County, PA.Work Schedule:
Monday-Friday, 7.5 hours/day, 10 months (194 days/year)About Us:
