Transmission Load Forecasting: Data & Solution Architect/Engineer
- Glen Allen, VA
- Permanent
- Full-time
- Work closely with numerous stakeholders across our delivery process and ensure sustainable solutions are built to meet the scale and function of the immediate task while ensuring ample consideration for the growth and sustainability of long-term forecasting work.
- Bridge the gap between domain experts, data scientists, and engineers to ensure alignment of technical solutions and deployed frameworks to our short and long-term business objectives.
- Work across business units often in obtaining access to upstream data sources and technology products necessary to enable models, data engineers, and forecast analysts.
- Avoid the use of black box techniques and instead work to support the creation of highly transparent and explainable processes that support our mission of providing intelligence and analysis to benefit our organization's reliability and planning objectives.
- Design and guide the implementation of scalable data and software architectures that support the growth of load forecasting as a business capability.
- Champion best practices in data curation, governance, integration, and lifecycle management to ensure forecasting solutions are robust, auditable, and future-ready.
- Problem Framing (Critical): Higher-order evaluation of how we think about what work we do, what we prioritize, and how we solution needs to be of utmost priority. Work with the team to analyze, understand, and define the problem(s) to make sure that we are solving the “right problem” and utilizing advanced engineering techniques.
- Data Architecture & Integration: The candidate should possess a strong understanding of data engineering and data science principles; work includes but is not limited to data schema development, ERDs, pipeline development, API management, etc.
- Data Technology: Robust understanding of applicable technologies, their application, and limitations - our current technology stack includes but is not limited to AVEVA PI, SQL, Altryx, Python, Azure DevOps, Power BI, SAP, Hadoop, among others. Experience in designing solutions and products across this stack will be highly valued.
- Engineering Principles: Understanding utility operations and electric power systems is preferred, especially as it relates to forecasting, grid planning, or system operations.
- Autonomous Team Player: We are spearheading a new and robust business capability; we are seeking candidates with the ability to operate independently on framing, structuring, and delivering work, but who can also manage up and out, all while aligning to the joint mission of our team and working in service of the collective group and the data/technology needs.
- Critical Thinking and Creativity: Our work requires an ability to think abstractly, pursue unknown unknowns, and the motivation to persevere even in failure. What we are solving for is unprecedented and challenging - we require out-of-the-box thinkers to provide expert technical consultation to other engineers and management.
- Communication Skills: Exceptional communication skills are mandatory - this role succeeds by collaboration with stakeholders, team members, data owners, IT, and leadership - this role is for the most part comprised of soft skills efforts informed by hard technical skills.
- Strong technical and organizational leadership skills.
- Recognized expert by other engineers and management.
- The candidate should demonstrate excellent professional ethics.
- Possess a 4-year Engineering degree from an ABET accredited Engineering program based on the year that the Engineering program was accredited by ABET, or
- Possess a 4-year Engineering degree from an institution outside of the U.S. which is accredited through the country's own Engineering accrediting body under the Washington Accord as a full signatory, and is a degree that was recognized by the country's accrediting body on or after the date that full signatory status was achieved, or
- Possess a 4-year degree in Engineering (non-ABET accredited), Physics, Chemistry, Math or Engineering Technology and a post-graduate Engineering degree from an institution where the undergraduate degree in the same Engineering discipline is ABET-accredited based on the year the Engineering program was accredited by ABET, or
- Holds or has previously held a valid U.S. Professional Engineer license.
