
Substitute Non-Instructional Paraeducator - Bus Attendant

- Administers first aid to provide emergency care.
- Provide support or supervision during student arrival and/or departure to include but not limited to transit to bus, transit from bus, unloading and/or loading wheelchair bound students.
- Provides assistant to bus driver.
- Assists with management of students with special health problems.
- Provide lifting assistance uof up to 50 pounds unassisted.
- Assist with reporting misconduct on school property and/or school bus route(s).
- Adhere to District safety policies and/or procedures as well as required program guidelines.
- Participate in District meetings to communicate information and gain feedback and/or direction on a variety of issues.
- Distribute documents and materials to appropriate staff, students and/or parents.
- Assist with supervision of students to ensure a safe and productive learning environment.
- Assist other personnel as may be required to support them with the completion of their work activities.
- Perform other duties as assigned within the scope of the position.
- Assist with contacting parents and/or guardians regarding student behavior and academic progress.
- CPI trained or willingness to attend training.
- High School Diploma or equivalent, required.
- Prior paraeducator experience, college, or on-the job experience preferred but not required.
- Experience working with students who are special needs preferred but not required.
- Valid First Aid and/or CPR card for infants and children or willing to obtain.
- Prior experience in a K-12 school setting preferred but not required.
- Knowledge in proper use of English in both written and verbal forms, use of correct grammar, spelling, and punctuation.
- Maintain detailed and accurate records.
- Skill in operating standard office equipment including basic computer applications.
- Ability to sit and/or stand for prolonged periods.
- Understand and conduct verbal and written instruction.
- Knowledge and/or experience working with children with behavioral disabilities.
- Knowledge of de-escalation strategies.
- Knowledge of car seats, BESI seats and/or seat belts.
- Ability to securely strap in wheelchair(s).
- Knowledge of general cleaning supplies and usages.
- Ability to establish a plan to address student behavior.
- Ability to follow safe work practices and/or procedures.
- Ability to communicate clearly and work effectively with staff, students, and patrons.
