Magoon Institute for Healthy Communities, including Strengthening Chicago’s Youth, a Chicago violence prevention collaborative convened by Lurie Children’s, the Juvenile Justice Collaborative, a care coordination program for youth in the justice system, and future initiatives. This position provides support to ensure success of Magoon Institute’s annual goals and Lurie Children’s community health strategy and organizational mission.Department Description: The Patrick M. Magoon Institute for Healthy Communities serves as the hub for all community-focused initiatives at Lurie Children’s. The Magoon Institute is responsible for aligning the Medical Center’s clinical, research, education and advocacy expertise with community engagement, while supporting people, programs and partnerships that advance community health. This team provides engagement opportunities for employees, physicians and trainees and leads the development and execution of Lurie Children’s Community Health Needs Assessment and Implementation Strategy. The Magoon Institute partners with clinical, public health and community outreach leaders and experts across the Medical Center to work towards the goal of advancing health equity and racial justice, and improving health and wellness for children, adolescents and their families across Chicago.We are committed to promoting diversity, equity, inclusion and multiculturalism.   • Oversee daily operations and project management for violence prevention initiatives and programs, including developing project plans and timetables, monitoring program progress and outcomes, facilitating ongoing quality improvement, and supervising program staff.
  • Collaborate with leadership and other key stakeholders to develop and implement a strategic vision, annual goals and program objectives for the Magoon Institute for Healthy Communities’ violence prevention initiatives including Strengthening Chicago’s Youth, the Juvenile Justice Collaborative, parent/caregiver supports initiatives and other projects.
  • Represent violence prevention and community health initiatives in community-based coalitions, city-wide collaboratives and other external meetings.
  • Draft written communications related to violence prevention policy (e.g., fact sheets, policy briefs), program reports, and communications to external partners.
  • Facilitate internal and external meetings with diverse stakeholders.
  • Conduct presentations to internal and external stakeholders, including justice system partners, policy makers, hospital leadership, and members of the public on topics related to violence prevention, justice reform and access to mental health.
  • Monitor and evaluate assigned grant objectives and prepare timely reports.
  • Support the Director of Violence Prevention Initiatives and Lurie Children's Foundation in efforts to secure additional program funding, including assisting with writing grant proposals and presenting program reports and outcomes to current and prospective funders.
  • Responsible for supervising and oversight of staff and students, including hiring, separating, promoting, demoting, and writing and administering performance evaluations.
  • Other job functions as assigned.
Knowledge, skills, & abilities:
  • Bachelor's degree required, master's degree in a social policy-related field preferred; public health- or public safety-related educational background highly desirable. An equivalent combination of education and/or experience may be considered in lieu of the degree when the experience has been directly related to the duties of the job.
  • Minimum five years of experience with progressive project management. Direct policy or advocacy experience in public health, violence prevention, or justice reform a plus. Experience in Illinois and Chicago is preferred.
  • Strong project management, time management, and organizational skills required.
  • Strong meeting facilitation and presentation skills.
  • Excellent analytical, interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Flexibility to work on evenings and weekends, travel throughout Chicago required/likely.
  • Ability to take initiative, work independently and be self-directed.
  • Ability to collaborate with individuals from different backgrounds and disciplines.
  • Strong working knowledge and skills in Microsoft computer software applications and database technologies. Experience with project management software and quantitative analysis skills preferred.
