The Associate Director of Development & Communications is expected to have substantial relationships with community members, donors, board members, administrators, faculty and staff.Example of Job Duties:Under the direction of the Executive Director of Institutional Advancement, the Associate Director of Development & Communications is responsible for contributing to the objectives of the Division of Institutional Advancement through effective performance in these essential duties:
  • Annual Giving
  • Provide leadership for the creation and execution of a comprehensive strategic annual giving marketing and communications plan. Provide recommendations for the plan to the Foundation board and committees. Leads the design, development, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of a comprehensive 12-month annual giving program. This program is a foundational aspect of the fundraising program and the pipeline for future major gifts. Provides ongoing evaluation, analysis, and improvement to achieve required outcomes.
  • Communications Plan
  • Responsible for the design, development, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of a comprehensive communications program for the foundation and department. Responsible for strategic messaging and targeted communications to segmented constituencies to the college/foundation’s 25,000 constituents. This work requires oversight of database integrations with various technological platforms to distribute messages and maintain the accuracy of data.
  • Project Management
  • Oversee logistics and details of overlapping projects including preparation of software tools that must be synced to messages for the accurate flow of data, establishing coding formats, designing and implementing acknowledgement mechanisms, and organizing task assignments and workflow.
  • Event Planning and Production
  • Develop, manage and execute recurring and new division-specific events using available resources and keeping costs within budgeted amounts.
  • Prospect Management and Donor Relations
  • Manage a donor prospect pool including research, qualification, rating, communications, personal visits, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship. Develops and sustains meaningful relationships with foundation directors, donors, alumni leaders, and other external stakeholders. Utilizes these relationships for identifying, cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding donors. Management of this large portfolio of relationships inside and outside the institution utilizing significant interpersonal communication skills.
  • Data Management
  • Propose and implement policies and procedures for data management to ensure integrity of database, identify opportunities to improve administrative efficiencies, and implement solutions. Collect and analyze data and prepare findings and recommendations to the executive director and other Foundation leaders. Produces reports and analyzes data to demonstrate growth in key performance areas, particularly around fundraising and communications.
In addition to the accountabilities listed above, the incumbent is required to carry out the essential duties of: Attendance and participation at convocation and commencement ceremonies; Service on assigned committees and task forces; Attendance and participation at committee, staff, informational and professional meetings. These may involve attendance at evening or weekend events.This posting includes qualifications, experience and skills but is not limited to the full specifications stated in the job description.Minimum Qualifications:Bachelor’s degree in a related field together with two (2) or more years of relevant experience; or a combination of education, training and experience which would lead to the competencies required for successful performance of the position's essential duties.Incumbents are required to have demonstrated advanced knowledge and abilities in the following:
  • Demonstrated knowledge of computerized and manual systems for collecting, preserving and reporting information related to the work of the Division.
  • Experience with segmented annual marketing and communications campaigns.
  • Experience with the development and execution of direct mail campaigns, including print, e-communications and individual follow-up.
  • Creative abilities including working independently to produce materials as well as with hired vendors.
  • Experience in event development and execution.
  • Knowledge of nonprofit communication concepts.
  • Familiarity with the development of strategy and use of social media campaigns for nonprofits.
  • Website content management and site maintenance using a CMS.
  • Organizational and multitasking skills including ability to manage multiple priorities and consistently meet deadlines.
  • Demonstrated ability to interact favorably with various communities, including external constituents, administrators, staff, faculty and students
Candidates must possess proven ability to effectively work with culturally, linguistically, and ethnically diverse faculty, staff, and students. They are expected to have excellent interpersonal oral and written communication skills along with strong Information technology literacy skills such as Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams etc.).Preferred Qualifications:

Starting Salary:Minimum Salary range; $68,623 - $73,234 approximate annual plus excellent State of CT medical insurance, retirement, and related fringe benefits.
